J-Doc Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 No, Bass Pro are not okay. Bad ratings. I do have the Cabelas brand and they are as nice if not nicer than the Attwoods. I like them. They have worked well for me for over a year now. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. Members innova Posted June 26, 2014 Members Posted June 26, 2014 I use 2 bass pro and 2 Atwoods, they all use the same bases which is permanently mounted and the rod holder plugs into the base and can be adjusted left right and up and down. The Atwood holders are made better, but the were almost twice as much. Never lost a rod with either holder, and have caught up 28lb striper using them.
nathanhooper Posted June 26, 2014 Author Posted June 26, 2014 Thanks guys. So, Attwoods makes both the plastic swivel type and the fixed wire type. Which ones are you all talking about? Kind of sounds like you all are talking about the plastic ones, but I know I seen a picture of some wire type in a boat recently
nathanhooper Posted June 26, 2014 Author Posted June 26, 2014 Or maybe I didn't... ha ha. Just went back to look and it might not be what I thought it was in the picture I was thinking about.
J-Doc Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Plastic. They are very durable. Spider rigs use wire holders typically. There is a plastic one that uses an Attwood base. Academy sells them online. Mr Crappie makes it. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. nathanhooper Posted June 26, 2014 Author Posted June 26, 2014 You guys use adjustable, or nonadjustable attwoods? Curious as to what angle the non adjustable is.
J-Doc Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Adjustable. Didn't know there was a non-adjustable. Typically you keep the rod level with the water but sometimes I aim the rod tips upward a little bit just so I can see the rod tips easier. Need marine repair? Feathers and Fins Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Plastic adjustable, I like mine pointing pretty much straight out on level with the boat. A bunch of crappie tried removing them today but to no avail I did put them in prison with a death sentence for trying though! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
nathanhooper Posted June 26, 2014 Author Posted June 26, 2014 Yea, attwoods has two different ones. A fixed one that they say is at the optimum angle, and one that your aware of. The fixed one is only fixed as far as angle, it looks to be adjustable bow/stern. The ones I have made are fixed, one sits at a pretty good angle and the other almost flat. Then I made two more out of rebar... and they sit just right. About 10 to 20 degrees I like.
