dnj21 Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Didn't want to hijack the thread about fishing streamers in running water, but have been thinking about my next trip down and trying some night fishing. What do you guys throw in the summer after dark in the Trophy area? Haven’t done it in a few years and mainly stuck to black wooly buggers back then. Also, you move the streamer size up dramatically? What about in the fall when the run is on? I have a trip scheduled for third week of Oct again this year and want to throw the 8wt a little bit more but don't have much October experience. 90% of my trips have been in Feb and a few in spring and summer. Just started making an Oct trip recently. Thank you!
Dylan Cluver Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 I like pine squirrell streamers in black, olive, white, dark brown, purple, and red. I also throw a streamer I call the bluegill which is just an olive streamer with some blue and orange in it. Most frequently I throw a size 8 but you can go much larger. No one gripes about obese fish.
Lancer09 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 I've never really done well on anything larger than a 6. At least for me throwing big stuff is a running water, from a boat kind of deal. smaller streamers have always given me numbers and size.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 27, 2014 Root Admin Posted June 27, 2014 Jeremy Hunt throws them and does fairly well? But I don't think it's nothing like the White River. I've spent some time and others I've taken and gotten a few follows and fewer takes on big articulated stuff. I don't think Taneycomo is a good big streamer fishery.
dnj21 Posted June 27, 2014 Author Posted June 27, 2014 I have always wondered why you don't read more about people using them? We throw F9-11 sized stickbaits all over with some success, why wouldn't big streamers work? There are some ridiculous sized fish all over the lake- I can't believe those 5# plus Browns wouldn't like a circus peanut or zoo cougar, but you never really hear about guys using them. Good excuse to spend more time hanging out down there and trying to figure it out...... Thank you guys, appreciate you taking the time to reply. Dave
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 28, 2014 Root Admin Posted June 28, 2014 Yea I need to throw them more... just can't leave the jigs alone.
