kjackson Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 I'm not going to say a thing against Flicker Shads as I do like them and use them. When you get them dialed in, they work very well, as F&F will attest. However, there is another option that has been working a little better for me. It is the Storm Smash Shad. I've had really good luck with it this year, and all species of fish (that I'm interested in catching) seem to like it. One thing that might be of benefit: some of the colors are UV-enhanced, and that may make a difference with some fish. Another selling point--Bass Pro has 'em for $.30 more than the Flicker Shad, so they are comparably priced. I did see some somewhere this spring for less than $3. If you find them on sale, don't be afraid to buy. They will work and can run side by side with the Flicker Shad.
J-Doc Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Darn. Now I need another box full of baits. Do you work on commission from the "baitmonkey"? You know the guy. Sits on your back inside the bait/tackle section and spots all the cool baits. Little bugger..... Guess I'll have to try a few. You're not the only one to say these things about them. There is another company (name elludes me) that the northern walleye guys just swear by. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
rps Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Storm makes a variety of lures that work very well for multiple species - and all of them are reasonably priced and often on sale. I heartily recommend the original series wiggle wart, the hot-n-tot, and the thundercrank.
Feathers and Fins Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 They are a good shallow water bait but difficult to get below 12ft without weight, leadcore or downriggers is my draw backs to them. Same issue I have with thin fins which I love. Warts The wart on the other hand will attain deeper depth and I use them when fish go deep with a decent degree of success. All three have their place for certain, my thing is find the bait that works best cost the least and stick with it to save on space in the boat. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
kjackson Posted June 27, 2014 Author Posted June 27, 2014 You can't get the Smash Shad down? The 7 size hits 15-16 feet for me with the same let-out as the Flicker...
Feathers and Fins Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Nope, 140 back at 2 to 2.5 with 10lb floro I can only barely hit 12 with them. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
JohnF52 Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 Anybody still use the old type Bombers? Some of the bigger ones were like planer boards.

Hmmm...maybe your fluorocarbon is larger diameter than what I'm using. I can hit the same depth as the 7 Flicker Shad or maybe a foot plus or minus. I tend to run 120 to 130 feet back.
Members marknsaw Posted June 28, 2014 Members Posted June 28, 2014 I have had a #9 flicker get bottom snagged in 18 fow with 160-170 feet of 10# Berkley flouro @ 1.8 - 2.0 MPH. The new flicker minnows are out guys. Cabela's has them listed, and the 7's are supposed to go to 18 feet, and the 9's to 23 feet. There are some regulars and the pro slick colors... I don't know about you guys but I have not had any luck with the pro slick colors though there are a couple new colors "I" may bite on

A few weeks ago I received an email notification that the FM would not be available for shipment until August due to "higher than expected demand". At least they will be here for fall fishing. I agree on the pro slick colors.
