J-Doc Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Get the kit. Replace it all at one time. Buy a repair manual for that motor and do it all right the first time. It will save you money. Yes, they are a bit bullet proof within reason. Mine lost compression on one cylinder and still ran great. I just happened to catch it in time. Could have ruined the block if not caught. Glen rebuilt her and she's like new. They are cold natured and a bit finicky like an old man. Needs a little loving to keep them running God. Need marine repair? J-Doc Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 I seriously considered a center console boat myself. Went with a new Ranger alum. instead. I still enjoy bass fishing and the flexability I can do with that boat appealed to me as well as the ease of resale later. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. nathanhooper Posted July 6, 2014 Author Posted July 6, 2014 I'll have to look up your posts again on that rebuild. I think I remember reading about it? What was the turn around time for it? I will probably get the kit, but I was trying to get it back on the water sooner than later. I hear ya on the boat. I love the layout of the CC, but a bass rig is versatile in its own right. I personally have never been much of a bass fisher, so with the front and rear deck on this I can still bank fish but trolling will be the biggest portion of time spent on it. Only thing I wish I had was the storage of a bass rig. I'll make do, but it will be on top of my list on my next boat.
J-Doc Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Turnaround is dependant upon the machine shop. It was about 2-3mo for complete breakdown and rebuild. I have some photos that could scare you. Piston with hole in it, scorched cylinder with grove cut in it. I bet Glen's got many photos much much worse. I had lots of little issues after the rebuild (motors fault) and poor old Glen hung in there with me till the very end including checking the head gaskets that turned out to be loosened from use. "How many hours did you out on this thing???!!" Lol!!! I'll never forget that one. I told him I used it a lot since the rebuild. Good news was, New pistons looked new and motor looked great in the inside even after 100-150hrs of use. Glens a good dude. Highly highly recommend. Best mechanic I've ever used. Need marine repair?
