powerdive Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Saving anything good here Randy, so its at a fingers click Had not seen any of that (sorry to say, this is the first time I've looked at the Beaver forum). Thanks for the resource, FnF!
Feathers and Fins Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Harness worms are year round. BUT, during some parts of the year, trolled cranks deliver better fish, and during other times, jigged spoons are especially effective. I actually have an excel chart I made similar to the one for all the species on Beaver that is much more refined as to what bait, when to use and where on the lake by time of year. Cranks are definitely on it as are some other baits. Let me try and edit it down a bit to just the baits and time of year and I will post it. but it aint getting my where and when lol. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

rps Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I've never learned the art of jigging spoons, but it's definitely something I'd like to add to my arsenal in the near future. I've considered trying smaller spoons in schools of deep crappie to begin getting the feel for it, but when I'm "in the moment" it's awfully hard to abandon an almost guaranteed mess of fish for the sake of learning a new tactic. One of these days.... The is a very informative video featuring Bobby Murray explaining how to jig for walleye.
nathanhooper Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Never tried fishing for them this way. Looks like fun.
rps Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Never tried fishing for them this way. Looks like fun. May I suggest you check out my favorite, the War Eagle spoons: http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/War_Eagle_Jiggin_Spoon_2pk/descpage-WEJS.html#multiview
Feathers and Fins Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I'll stick to my XPS spoons they are cheaper and work great https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
kjackson Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Here's a quick question: does anyone use blade baits--think Heddon Sonar--during the spoon bite? The do work well, at least back where I did most of my walleye fishing.
rps Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I don't know why I haven't thought to try those. I have a couple in my box for rip fishing, and they ought to work great vertically.
kjackson Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Used to use them quite a bit during the winer with a strip of squawfish as scent. If you need some, I should be home Monday. I do intend tp post pix of what we used out West.
