Unimog Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 I'm planning on heading down in the morning. Going to try some big worms out deep and spend some time looking for some good brush out deep. I'll be putting in at RB.
Lifes2Short Posted August 5, 2014 Author Posted August 5, 2014 Thanks all, I think I'll go out of State Park on Thursday. Sounds like it's supposed to be cloudy/rainy so maybe they will come shallower? If not I'll find some deep points and use the big stuff! Tight Lines.
Unimog Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Had success with big worms deep mostly on brush piles. Had them rigged as a bubba shot and magnum shakey head and did pretty good from 4:30-7pm.
Unimog Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Did you go out 2short? I was at state park but just a passenger on a pontoon. Saw a couple Lunds with guys fishing. Yesterday I just ran from spot to spot fishing brush with the bubba shot. Occasionally I'd find some with fish and catch 3 of one spot. Honestly it was a pretty satisfying 2 days, I used my electronics probably more than I ever have.
Members CrappieCole Posted August 8, 2014 Members Posted August 8, 2014 Here's a picture of a bass my dad caught last night fishin. My hand is on the bass not held above it. That cooler is 20-24 inches wide.
Lifes2Short Posted August 9, 2014 Author Posted August 9, 2014 Went out of State Park, started out in the rain about 6:00am. Caught the first one on a blade and caught others on a number of different baits. Best luck was on a drop shot in about 15 to 20 fow. My buddy caught 2 really nice keepers on the bottom in about 30 fow on a swimbait. Tight Lines!
Members CrappieCole Posted August 9, 2014 Members Posted August 9, 2014 He said him and a buddy tore them up all night using a black spinnerbait and black super fluke fishin the banks. We've been doin some night fishin here last month or 2 and the bass just keep gettin bigger and bigger every trip out
Members Cat Thief Posted August 9, 2014 Members Posted August 9, 2014 Congrats to your dad there crappiecole - what did it weigh in at? Members eagle1584 Posted August 12, 2014 Members Posted August 12, 2014 I don't post much here since I only get down to the lake once or twice a year so I thought I'd share my experience from the weekend. I get a lot from everyones posts so thanks for all the info! We fished near Crabtree on Saturday afternoon until after dark and on Sunday morning until noon. We started trolling deep cranks and picked up a few short smallies and a couple short walleye. Most of the fish came off the ends of steep banks where it was transitioning to shallower flats. On a whim we threw a wacky rig right up on shore near the buck brush and surprisingly caught a lot of fish. That continued straight through Sunday noon even with bright sunny sky. They were hitting it right when the worm hit the water so I suspect a spinner bait would have done just as well but why switch when you have a good thing going! We didn't really expect to pick them up so shallow this time of year with all the deep fish reports out there. Only about 4 or 5 keepers with the biggest being 18". The majority of fish we caught were smallies just under 15" which is good news for the next few years. It looks like they are going strong. All told we had a much better than expected 24 hours based on what we read from reports. Caught 1 keeper walleye on a crank but really didn't target them much when we got into the bass with the limited amount of time. I will say the saturday afternoonjet skiers, pleasure boaters and tubers were almost unbearable up by the dam. I hope to get back down in October when they will be gone.
