anyone tried crappie under the lights lately? thought i would try to beat the heat this weekend and try it at night.

My last time was the report I posted on July 31. My preference has always been close to the channel typically over about 40' of water with the bait at the 15' range. Good luck, sounds like the best idea in this heat wave.

I'm heading up this evening to try for some crappie. I've heard two reports in the last couple of weeks. 40 feet of water in the trees witht he fish down 15 feet from two eeks agao. 25 feet of water with fish down 20 feet from last weekend.

I've been up bass fishing the last couple of weeks and I've seen crappie fishermen on some brushpile each time that are are about 25 feet deep. Boats have stayed on them through the evening so I suspect they are catching crappie or having a very good nap.

Hope you had better luck than me. Put in at State Park and set up lights across the lake where the channel runs in. After about two hours of nothing the trip deteriorated into me and my fishing partner making owl and coyote calls. We attracked plenty of bait fish catching only a couple of little crappie and white bass. Water temp 85.5. Left at 1am and dodged possums and armadillos from State Park to Greenfield.

yea our night was pretty much the same. we put in at 8 oclock at cedar ridge and set up with lights in four different places and left about 2am. 3 of us in the boat and I was the only one to catch a fish. 11 inch crappie. I did have something big on for awhile with my buddy waiting with the net but spit out the lure before we got to see it. fun while that lasted. I got about 5 other hits all night and dont think my friends got any. we fished 2 brush piles 1 big tree area and 1 bridge pillar. saw several other boats fishing and all moving around and leaving by midnight. at least it wasnt blistering hot. guess I will go back to pomme and feed the little ones. at least i can catch a small mess there. stay cool everyone.

sounds like we all had the same trip. I caught 2 keeper crappie and one bluegill. I was fishing the trees in maize creek. was a nice nigjt though so long as you weren't doong anyhting. Sure broke a sweat loading and lashing down the boat after giving it up about midnight. Yes the critters were out and about on the drive home. Next weekend being the last of the idiot boats most likely I'll probably stay away and get back the weekend after that. If I go at all duriong the Holiday weekend it will be a night bass trip.

Went saturday night and only caught one small bass and one tiny white bass. Same as others have posted, lots of bait fish attracted with the light. I did have several bites but they were just tapping the minnow then that was it. This is the first night fishing trip I had all summer were I came home empty handed. My wife went with me for the first time and I blamed all the bad luck on her. After reading all of the reports I guess I need to apologize to her?
