Bassmaster21 Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 I have been in the same situations. I have actually had instances on other lakes where I was fishing down a bank and a guy came down on the bank and cast out right in front of us. We just slowly went around then he walked further down the bank (back in front of us) and continued to cast. That cycle lasted another 200 yards before he left because he realized our wiggle warts were out fishing his grub from "used water". I run into that a lot with people crappie fishing and trolling for walleye while I'm bass fishing. I don't know why but it immediately gets me focused in and I almost always start catching bigger or more fish when people try and crowd me out of a spot. I have never been had someone come up on me and catch fish but it is still very annoying. I think fishing behind someone who is obviously going a specific direction is okay as long as you keep distance. I also think it is okay to fish towards a point that someone is sitting on as long as you peel off before you get too close. Basically comes down to common courtesy and common sense.. which seems like people don't have much of these days.
Members Zeke Kuehn Posted September 4, 2014 Members Posted September 4, 2014 It's a small lake with little cover for Bass. Each good spot on that lake gets hit once a week or more. This kind of stuff is bound to happen and should be expected on lakes this small. Fishing from the bank on fellows is tough to say the least...Good Work. "Fish Long and prosper"- John Geirach
Flysmallie Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I blame the city of Springfield as much as anyone. There would be plenty of fishing opportunities around town if they made them accessible. Fellows has the most room for the bank fisherman but it's often inaccessible because of the brush that lines the bank. I'm not talking about brush in the water, this brush is right at the waters edge making fishing in front of it impossible. So you have to look for holes. And those holes are usually full and over fished. Cut the brush and move it into the water to offer better fishing opportunities. Springfield Lake is close to the same. There is one long area of the north shore that is a great spot to fish but again it's almost impossible because of the brush between the walking path and the water. They spent tons of money on the walking path but zero on fishing opportunities. Plus there are numerous parks with wonderful fishing opportunities that have been closed to fishing. They seem to think that throwing in some fishing docks on a few of the lakes is all the opportunity you need. They are way more interested in making sure that a man can use a women's restroom than offering decent outdoor activities for the people of Springfield.
Members TheBeardedTay Posted September 7, 2014 Author Members Posted September 7, 2014 I've had better results at Lake Springfield, and I always do well when floating it and the James. I agree about the bank fishing though, the areas that are cleared are over-fished, and barren. I've tromped around on the Northern bank some, and had good luck the few times I've done it. It's always an uphill battle when bank fishing. "Fishing is much more than fish. Members Prestone Posted September 9, 2014 Members Posted September 9, 2014 I'm one of those rare people that boaters will run into that they don't want to run into. I'll chuck rocks at them and tell them where to stick it, if they want to go over my line and ruin my spot. When they get mouthy and get close enough to see that I "open carry" they don't feel so tough anymore. Not that I would use it on anyone because I wouldn't unless it was a life and death situation, but it's funny how tough they get until they notice my little friend.

Flysmallie Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 I only hope you are rare. Me too. Part of the problem, not part of the solution. I have a buddy that wouldn't take so kindly to any of that and you would be dead before you could ever pull your gun Barney. Some times you just need to let it go. Of course he wouldn't purposely invade your space either.

Flysmallie Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 how do you know prestone would be dead, he might just a BAMF, and eat your buddy for breakfast. LOL. Could be but I know my buddy pretty well. I just don't think there is any reason to throw rocks at anyone and then when things get tough you hide behind a weapon. A fishing spot is no reason for an butt whoopin or gun fight.
