Cabelas has these rods in their sale paper that I got in the mail last week. The rods look decent and for almost half off, I went ahead and picked one up along with some new fly line and backing.

Anybody use these rods and have an opinion on them?

My main 5 WT is a 9 ft St Croix Premier. While not the prettiest rod on the river and not the BEST casting, it has served me well. I like the feel of the cast with it and have no real complaints, just that I've cast better rods... but most were higher priced. I got the rod as part of a package and it has replaced my White River 8.5 ft 5WT...

For the money, I think you'll enjoy the rod just fine.

I built my 3wt on a st croix SCII blank its worth the money. I am not sure how the components are on the factory rod but the blank isnt bad

I think the premier is the old Pro Graphite that was discontinued. I have the PG in a 6wt. Its a fine rod.

The "Premier" fly rod is being discontinued, so that's why they are coming down in price. They are continuing the Premier spin and cast lines...

The Premier was my first rod and I still fish it quite a bit. 9' five weight in an outfit from Everhart's. The reel was crappy, so I pitched it quickly, but I like the rod. I believe from looking at the Cabelas 2007 Fly Fishing catalog they've been replaced by a new line. Can't recall the name, but similar in price to the Premier.

I already have a few of the premier rods. A couple of 9' - 8 wts from Cabelas when they opened in KC. I was thinking of steelhead when I bought it but I take it crappie fishing into heavey brush all the time. Then we got a 7'6" 4 wt that became my wife's favorite rod for bluegill and trout. When Cabelas offered the 4 piece models for $50, I had to get one of the 5wt models. I already have a 4 wt SCII. These are moderate action rods, which works well for my casting stroke. For all you fiberglass rod fans it reminds you of them without the weight of glass.
