Members BuschTrout22 Posted January 9, 2007 Members Posted January 9, 2007 Going down next month with my dad and some friends staying at genes and lodge 7 on the river Any new news on the conditions down there? I would call Gene's and ask however I would think they'll want your business regardless, and not give a straight answer. Any ideas on good flies to tie down there as well? Thanks guys "Then in the Arctic half-light of the canyon, all existence fades to a being with my soul and memories and the sounds of the Big Blackfoot River and a four-count rhythm and the hope that a fish will rise." - Norman Maclean
RiverRunner Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 Norfork has been generating non-stop for almost a month. If the lake level ever reaches 552 they might slow it down, but the forecast is calling for more rain, so I would doubt that they will cut back on generation any time soon unless there is a major flood on the lower White. I'm not a high water expert, but I would think that micro-jigs and egg patterns would be worth a shot, along with the Y2K or any other bright fly. I 'm sure that Mr. Berry will chime in with more info than I have. I am going to try and hit the Norfork next weekend. I will post a report then.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 9, 2007 Root Admin Posted January 9, 2007 Two years ago I floated the upper tailwater and simply killed browns and rainbows on white jigs. There may have been shad coming thru the turbines before I was there... but I still would try jigs if you're going there. "killed" is figurative... we released everything.
Members BuschTrout22 Posted January 9, 2007 Author Members Posted January 9, 2007 Thanks guys... I will try the white jigs River, please let me know how things are.. Especially with the soil erosion that ran into the river... Thanks again! John Berry Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 I am glad to chime in. The water is high with no sign of relief.I would add San Juan Worms to the list of high water flies. There is no good news on the soil erosion front. Trout Unlimited had been included in the law suit. ADEQ has requested a hearing. They are concerned because they feel that conditions are deteriating on site. Since the suit was filed, there has been no work done on site. As a result everytime we get a sprinkle the Norfork turns into a mud hole. John Berry OAF CONTRIBUTOR Fly Fishing For Trout (870)435-2169 http://www.berrybrothersguides.com berrybrothers@infodash.com
Members BuschTrout22 Posted January 9, 2007 Author Members Posted January 9, 2007 John, thanks for the info... What a shame. I feel bad for my kids, kids. Norfork river used to mean alot to me. Every yr when we leave, I cant wait till the next 12mos have passed and we get to go down again. I like the comradre that we have when we are down there, however fishing is a big part of that fun we all enjoy. Great places that once inhabit the earth, will be gone, thanks to money grubbing whores... Excuse my speech. However I wish people can just leave beauty the way it is, and let us outdoorsmen have some part of wilderness that will stay intact for years to come. This is truely a disgrace. I hope for sunny skies for the end of Feb "Then in the Arctic half-light of the canyon, all existence fades to a being with my soul and memories and the sounds of the Big Blackfoot River and a four-count rhythm and the hope that a fish will rise." - Norman Maclean
RiverRunner Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 Your saying what most people I know are thinking. Its real sad to see what is happening at Norfork and in lots of other places in the Ozarks. What is even more sad is how our state government, which is supposed to be an instrument of the the people of Arkansas, seems unable to stop the destruction or do anything to correct it. I guess that's what happens when developers and poultry processors bankroll state political campaigns. . . . Just my two cents.

If it keeps going the way it's heading, this state will be called chicken dung state!!!> From my post on Wilson's board on the subject: When the very first appointment of our new Governor was to name the head lobbyist and political bagman of the poultry industry as his Chief of Staff I thought I could see the future. If anyone is aware of the damage and on-going problems with the poultry industry in relation to the environment in the state of Arkansas it is the man just leaving the position as state Attorney General. His actions in choosing a chicken industry spokeman to be in charge of daily operations of the Governors office was nothing less that an arrogant backhanded slap in the face of every outdoorsman in the state and a sure indication of his intent IMO. Snow Fly Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 I just noticed Arkansas Governor Huckabee has announed a run to become President in 2008. Interesting he made the following statement: "I think this is the oppourtunity to show the American dream is still alive" My American dream is to see CLEAR WATER and not MUD between the banks of Norfork Tailwaters "God gave fishermen expectancy, so they would never tire of throwing out a line"
