drew03cmc Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 What would be a good choice of lures for Crane Creek in the springtime. I am leery of fly fishing it because I have a rod too long, and am too bad a caster. Spinners, jigs, what else? Thanks Andy
BrianK Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 I've only fished Crane twice and it's been a few yrs. Most flies that you fish deep can also be very effectively dead drifted with spinning gear. egg patterns, woollies, stones, jigs do well. pinch on just enough split shot to cast and to get to the bottom and stay in touch with your fly. Heed all the advice previously given. except I didn't see any snakes either. good luck. Brian
Harps Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 Small jigs/doll flys have been productive for me. 1/32 - 1/64 oz if the current is average to low, a notch or two heavier if current is stronger. Olive good. Brown good. Use 2lb test. Good thing about spinning rods is that you can "slingshot" your lures into tight spots.
