Members jjustin808 Posted October 5, 2014 Members Posted October 5, 2014 You'll be fine. A stream smallie exerts much more energy than their stillwater brethren.. this time of the year they're really looking to fatten up. Fall fishing is the best fishing, even in colder, stained water. Actually, I like a stained stream as it gives the smallies a bit of "cover" for then to feel protected. Look for a rising stream though.. they will slow their feeding after a creek crests.
XP 590 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Dude..YOU are the smallmouth guru! I've been reading your blog since it came out.
Wayne SW/MO Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 In about another 2 weeks or so the stream closes to you will start seeing the smallies moving to the deep holes. I imagine the deep woody holes above the public access will be some good fishing. I've had some really good fishing on the river just east of it by putting in at the fords and paddling to a deep woody hole. When they hole up it seems very slow with something that closely resembles baitfish, including longears, works well. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Troutnut69 Posted October 11, 2014 Author Posted October 11, 2014 Thanks again gents...it's pretty amazing what a clueless guy like me can learn from people that actually know what they're doing. And Dave...I had to laugh at that one! Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in awhile and occasionally even I get lucky.
Mofloatjunkie Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 I love this forum and all the advice and help I get. these guys have definitely made me a better fisherman.
