rps Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 I believe in taking responsibility for my actions. I model this as often as I can for my students. For the second straight trip with a good fisherman on Beaver, our boat blanked on desireable fish. Short bass and catfish only. I know I am now doomed to no more invitations as I evidentally curse any boat I am in, but it is what it is. Feathers and Fins (Scott) put us in excellent areas. I saw the baitfish and the predator fish on his electronics. Nothing, Nada, Zilch. Except catfish. Can you imagine how well people could catch catfish without a Jonah in the boat? Thanks Scott. I had a great time.
J-Doc Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Give it a few weeks. Maybe my curse and your curse cross-cancel each other out. I managed to shake the slime disease and haven't caught a catfish in a while. I boasted a few bass in a short trip to Beaver today. Had I known you were out, I would have ran up to meet ya. Bait balls Bait balls Bait balls Bait balls This lake has more bait than one lake should. And that in my opinion is one of the contributing factors that makes Beaver a tough lake to figure out. The biggest problem is it's fishing pressure. It has more tournaments than a teenager has pimples. The fish have seen every lure imaginable chunked at them all summer and they are just tough to entice a bite. Reaction strikes were what worked for me today. Fast retrieves, short pauses and twitches. Sometimes super fast retrieve and then dung it down and then crank it up was the deal. That makes a lot of work on the angler. With bait everywhere, the fish seem to "snack at will". I watched fish after fish swim up, take a snack, swim back down. Odd thing is, they are not gorging themselves on bait which would make some heafty weigh sacks at a tournament. All fish are healthy but not fat pigs. I can't figure that out with the amount of forage. It's a super healthy lake. Lots of craws, minnows, etc. Stripers are roaming around near the dam and upper lake in deep water. All the bass are off the bank and suspending around 18-23ft and "snacking". Wind is a MUST. No wind, no bite. In a few weeks, I k ow some areas where we can limit out on walleye. I'll set something up. ;-p Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!

wc1063 Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Not sure about the curse, Doc. I heard cats LOVE shiny, new RED boat!!
JohnF52 Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 According to local guys on the Catfish1 forum, Beaver is poor for catfishing. They prefer the Arkansas river.
Feathers and Fins Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Convince them to come to beaver because if it is poor I would hate to see the river I would never get a bottom bouncer down. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
J-Doc Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Note to self, stay off the river. Lol. They follow me around like an old cat lady has cats. I just don't have use for them. To me, walleye, crappie, and stripers are far tastier. White bass taste better than lake cats to me. And I can't really eat catfish in a restaurant anymore. I blame Scott too. While heartedly. Had I not tried crappie and walleye fishing, I'd still be chunking and winding crankbaits and spinnerbaits every trip. Now, I'm either trolling or getting bored and bass fishing. Need marine repair? YAKFM Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Large white bass and small stripers near PC today. A friend and I caught close to 30 WB in 3 hours this afternoon from his boat. Numerous doubles. They were all over our jigging spoons and trolled crankbaits. 20 feet down over 30 FOW with large bait balls in the area. No eyes for us either.
J-Doc Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 If it was the school I am thinking of, those suckers won't touch my spoon. You sir are a spoon-expert. Need marine repair? YAKFM Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 If it was the school I am thinking of, those suckers won't touch my spoon. You sir are a spoon-expert. 5 came on the jigging spoon. The remainder came on #7 flicker shad. We had multiple doubles on boat turns and we discovered by accident that they wanted some erratic action with the lures. Once we discovered this preference we held the rods in our hands and created erratic behavior by pumping the rod back and forth as we trolled. Straight line trolling at 2-3 mph only resulted in a few hook ups.
