Feathers and Fins Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 So when you wake up and the man up stairs is throwing tons of hints at you to go fishing you better listen and go fishing. I called Yakfm and said lets go and he was game we met at my house at 11am and launched about 11;30. the first area we hit produced 7 fish several whites a catfish and a cute little LMB and tons and tons of bait. We decided to run and check 3 other spots but got blanked, Got back to the first spot about 3:30ish I would say and instantly were on White. Ended up with 40 fish with 33 of them coming from 3;30 to 5;00 5;30 hybrids and whites all real nice fish Most came on the XPS Spoon with a few on a flicker shad. Did hit one striper but he unbuttoned but felt nice watching the rod double over. Ya there is no bait in Beaver Lake my butt. Great shot of white bass destroying a bait ball Striped Bass calling for dinner Yak with a couple representatives Always willing to help a friend out Im on the phone with Nick and a 5lb hybrid decided to hit the spoon and Brian got the pic lmao. All in all a great great day Water temp 68 Lures were flicker shad and XPS Spoons 10 to 15mph wind https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

fisherofmen11 Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 How do you fish the XPS spoon? Do you cast it or just jig it straight up and down? I have never caught a fish on a spoon.
J-Doc Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 He rips it off the bottom about 3ft or so. I do the same thing and even use his rod......and he still beats me. :-) Maybe I can get my son on them Sunday when I get back in town. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
Feathers and Fins Posted October 16, 2014 Author Posted October 16, 2014 I drop it to depth and give a fast twitch of my wrist nothing more or less maybe a jump of 18'' to 2'' then let it free fall and do it again typically they are hooked when I start reeling. You can feel them hit it on the fall but don't set the hook until the line is tight or back at the bottom of the fall. Yesterday they were so aggressive they we hitting it with no motion several times. The picture where im on the phone I wasn't moving the jig at all I had dialed and was waiting for the answer when it hit. Brian had tried a war eagle spoon a bobby garland and couple other baits I also tried a couple jigging raps, you would have though as aggressive as they were on the XPS they would hit anything but they didn't. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Feathers and Fins Posted October 16, 2014 Author Posted October 16, 2014 I should note incase they are still out the AGFC has nets out they are on a string of red and white buoys for shad survey, we talked very briefly to the biologist who seemed very pleased at the numbers of shad especially after the die-off last year. so stay clear of the buoys and hopefully we will get a news letter update on what they found. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
