Wife and I went to wally world this morning to look at digital cameras. We came across an old model/display cut in price from 280 to 140. It is a Panasonic Lumix model TZ1. Here is a link to the site

Lumix TZ1

It has lots of flash, so you better be on high speed. It looks like it'sgot a lot of great features, but to any photog buffs here, what should I keep in mind when taking pictures of anything outdoors? I doubt she will *knowingly* let this camera visit the white river.

Here is the camera, pic from the panasonic site.

She's probably right. the river is littered with digital cameras that someone swore they would never drop.

Stick to disposables in the water.

Or at least pack your camera in a good ( which also means a new one each trip)zip lock bag while you carry it on the river....... There is a lot more than jsut cameras on the bottom of that lake. I lost my favorite forcepts above outlet 2 last november one night. I was using them to help unhook a feinds fish. I swear the lanyrd was around my neck but five minutes later they where gone. It amazing how you can see the trout in the water with a falsh light but not a bright silver set of forsepts. I hope someody picked them up and they get 15 years of fun out of them like I did.

I'd pick up a extra card and take pics of everything until I got used to its features. It won't be long till you will be posting pics in all the forums here.

Pickup some good batteries and a charger and extra memory card as mentioned.

If the sun is out try and take your pic's with it coming from your back.

The most important thing, when getting your picture with a fish hold the fish closer to the camera. :D

Well, after checking out the website for this model, it has some fangled chip in it that allows for backlight compoensation, so facing or not facing the sun doesn't have to be an issue. also for close ups of fish i read that in its macro mode you can actuall have the camera as close as 5 cm to the object being photographed and still be able to zoom in and what not. as far as the batteries, it came with a battery and charger. i've already told the wife we need to look into a spare battery. after all, it came with a battery case. and yea, definitely a memory card. she just doesn't understand all the mega-this and giga-splat nonsense. thanks for your help though. Maybe I'll stick to her kodak advantix camera for my trips. the old fashioned way, but still good quality.

I'm hope3less on the f-stop, gigasplat stuff too. But with modern camera having this nice Automatic mode" I still get a fair few images published ;)

The automatic shooting modes take care of all the techie stuff and you worry about the most importat bit which is what you have in the frame.

Apart from one "techie tip" have the flash on all the time even the day for your fishy type shots. Pros call it "fill in flash" it will cut down hat shadows etc and make everything nice.

If your taking a photo of a person and a fish, get closer, fill the viewfinder with the fish _ check to make sure you didn't cut the angler's head off then squeeze shuitter

Now do it 2-3-4 more times in case they blinked pulled face etc

Nice thing is with digital you can see results instantly.

Focus on the fish _ not the angler

don't take all your shots from a standing position _ have them kneel down close to the water _ it looks different so grabs the eye more than a standard everyday standing position

There's lots more but I have customers

LOL

Cheers

I hope one day to get up there around the BDS. A co-worker of mine frequents spider creek and speaks highly of your store. Just difficult juggling a work schedule, 3 kids and a double-shift working wife AND finding time to get away to fish. I'm not sure, I think mapquest puts the BDS at 2 hours from my house. How far away is spider creek from the BDS?

Less time than it takes me to type this Mikey LOl

50 yards from the Spider Creek Resort. The owner of the resort Pete Godfrey purchased the Store in '05 and we operate together.

Your colleague may have filled you in but the Creek itself flows through the resort into the White River. The Spider Creek hole of the White is what people generally fish and refer to as fishing "spider creek"

you can click on our website to check out more details of the area, our guide services, store specials and there is a link to the resort as well click on accomodation. Oh and you can sign up for our weekly newsletter, Im penning the next edition now lol

Always like talking fly fishing, hope to see you down sometime, or as I mentioned if you want details on flies you can give me a call. Slow as a wet week around here

Hmm it is wet outside now _ at least its still liquid LOl

I did sign up for the BDS newletter. So it's that close...I was severely mislead by Google Earth when trying to locate the beaver dam store via the address. Here is what Google EDarth gave to me when I plugged in Spider Creek and the address for the Beaver Dam Store

Now I'm embarrassed when I look at the Spider Creek page, there is the BDS in yellow. Silly me...

Not as far away as I had thought. :)
