Members Mac's Orphan Posted November 13, 2014 Members Posted November 13, 2014 Can anyone recommend a good campground to park an RV (travel trailer) while fishing the Eleven Point. 24' trailer and would love to have electric and water connections. Thanks in advance. If I'd known I was gonna live this long, I would have taken better care of myself...
Mark Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 You're out of luck on the Eleven Point. Only RV campground is at Greer Crossing on Hwy 19 and no electric and the water is shut off for the winter. I don't understand why there isn't any full service RV campgrounds on the Eleven Point. I have heard locals say they don't want the Eleven Point to turn into another Current River party place like Van Buren. I guess I can understand that line of thought. Although I consider the RV types to be an older crowd and less likely to be having wild parties.
Brian Sloss Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 There are no electric hook ups on the water because it is all publicly owned inside wild and scenic easements. They tried to add a few electric sites at Greer a few years ago and the wiring got swiped for the copper and that blew the budget for electric. There are electric hookups a couple of miles from Greer at www.cornerstonearena.com. Of course you can stay at one of our cottages in Alton. They are about as expensive as hauling your rv and paying for the hook-ups. Central heat and air, full kitchens, Sat TV, 2-3 bedrooms. Off season rate $55/night for the first 2 people and then $10 head thereafter. In season $65 for the first 2 people and then $10 a head. www.11pointcanoe.com I guide fly fishermen, do shuttles, rent canoes and sell flies, leader, tippet etc. If you want you can plug in to the side of my building for $10/day, but the water is off for the winter as the building is not heated. Let me know in advance if you need anything as we are open by reservation during the winter. 417-778-6497 www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497

He's in the military so we get together when we can by his schedule. Thank you for the information and hospitality!! Yeah - no "wild parties" here - those days are long gone - worn out from fishing all day and in bed by 8:30PM! If I'd known I was gonna live this long, I would have taken better care of myself...
2sheds Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 An Elder's Rule of Thumb - I consider it an outstanding campground if I am the rowdiest occupant.
Mark Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Brian, maybe you can answer this question as someone with first hand knowledge of the how the local population feels... Does the local population not want any more commercialization of the river? I have often thought that a RV park or rental cabins right on the river (of course, outside of the ONSR protected areas) would be a good investment. I am thinking of areas of private land below Riverton down to the Arkansas border. It just seems like someone would have thought of buying some riverfront property and try to make some money off of it with tourism. I know I have talked to people who are adamantly opposed to anything like the Current River at Van Buren commercialization, but I don't know if there is anything preventing someone from making an investment and trying to turn a profit on privately owned riverfront property. Just curious.

Brian Sloss Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 The river is a national wild and scenic river and is mostly federally owned from Cane Bluff to Riverton and the very little privately owned land is under easements. There is lots of private land from Thomasville to Cane Bluff, but there are easements I am sure and the flow is not consistent enough to warrant investment there. Riverton to 142 is mostly private, but wild and scenic easements are in place there as well. Granted all easements may not be the same, but most of them have building restrictions along the river bank. You could do something from 142 to Myrtle, but that is well downstream of where the customer base wants to go. By the way, the thing everyone says they love about this river is its lack of development and pristine condition. A campground/Rv park on the banks of the river will change the character. I agree a RV campground is needed, just don't feel it has to be right on the water. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
Mark Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Oh I certainly agree with the pristine conditions. Just wondered why someone hasn't tried some development downstream from Riverton. Guess I didn't realize that easements existed on private land. I have seen a couple spots below Hwy 142 where it looks like someone made a campground on their private lot.
