Members MattS Posted November 19, 2014 Members Posted November 19, 2014 I had the same hookset problem at Norfork last weekend. Probably got a bite on every 3 casts but landed about 1 out of every 7 or 8. Usually I can hook them easily but they must have been taking them differently than usual.
DaddyO Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 DaddyO, It was a joke. This is the pine squirrel soft hackle. It is one of my favorite flies to swing and strip on Taney. image.jpg Size 10, 3x long streamer hook. 1/8th inch bead and palmered pine squirrel. LOL. Got it. AKA Hibernator. DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.
Don Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I enjoy using a primrose and pearl soft hackle at Taney. Can either swing it or strip it depending on what the fish want that day. Once in awhile the hookset can be challenging. I have improved my odds at times by using the line set method. Since you are stripping you already have the line in one hand. Focus hard and when the strike occurs, give a moderate tug on your line as you lift your rod. Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
