Quillback Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 The smaller ones are tasty, but the big ones taste like crap. In my opinion that is.
Members charliehorsejigs Posted January 8, 2015 Members Posted January 8, 2015 Walcrabass, I think that fishing partner of yours is a good luck charm for you. He probably deserves a steak dinner or better yet a Walleye dinner.
Members Mike Chamber Posted January 8, 2015 Members Posted January 8, 2015 I caught a 32" walleye last spring right at 9 pounds great pictures
Walcrabass Posted January 8, 2015 Author Posted January 8, 2015 Charliehorsejigs, You are right about my fishing partner. He is a good luck charm. I could tell hunting and fishing stories about being out with him for hours. Our families are great friends and our kids grew up together. We have had many Deer and fish dinners together. The best friends I have ever had in life are definitely the ones I have hunted and fished with. Many of them are now gone and believe me it has made a huge sadness in my life. I am telling all of you this to remind you to put your work aside and go fishing with your friends..... it all comes to an end someday. Mr. Chambers, Quite the Walleye !!!!! Hope it was mounted !!!! In 1977 I caught an approximate 31 incher. At that time pretty much a lake record for length. The fish had hollow belly real bad and it didn't weigh a whole lot. I had it mounted by a guy named Hal Mers and he did a great job. Even today the mount looks new as it hangs on my wall and reminds me of the day I caught it. Another of my fishing friends that is now gone "netted" it for me.... by cupping his arms in the water....... as we had no net. One hook barely held it in the skin of the lip after fighting it. When he dropped it in the bottom of the aluminum boat (that is right... no Bass boat in those days) the hook fell out. We used to laugh about that all the time. Several years later he caught one about the same size on a tiny Mirror lure on an Ultralight. Once again in the Aluminum boat, once again only one hook holding in the edge of the mouth, once again no net, once again cupping the arms in the water to land it....... but this time it was my arms. Great memories !!!!!! Go fish and hunt with your families and friends ......you will never regret it....... no one has ever left this world wishing he could have " just worked one more week". powerdive Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Someone tell me again why bass are so much more special than walleye, crappie, etc? Because they're easy to catch, and worthless. So people throw 'em away as soon as they winch 'em in, of course. Just like the big boys on TV. Sorry. I have to admit, bass do fight much better than walleyes do. So there's that. We've caught seven or eight 15" crappies out of Stockton over the years (all in winter), but no major horses. Odd fact: my best crappie, 18.5", came not from down South here but from Lake Michigan, of all places.
kwall Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Gotta' say those Stockton bass are mighty tasty -- I love to cut the big'ins up in chunks and deep fry'em -- doing my part to help keep the bass pop in check , plus nice to be able to throw some of those eyes back to get bigger Goggleeye Bailie 1
Bassmaster21 Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 All of my biggest crappie have come night fishing in the summer. Multiple around 15" with a handful of ones bigger than that. I have never caught a walleye worth bragging about but while night fishing my buddy's dad caught a 30" eye on an ultralite rod with 4lb test! By far the biggest fish I have seen, but I know there are some BIG fish out there
Members Goggleeye Bailie Posted January 11, 2015 Members Posted January 11, 2015 I find 12 inch LM pretty tasty, its its best to catch them upriver. I once had a guy tell me ha caught a 7 06 smallmouth on Spring River, but he was a story teller. I caught a snub nosed 5 lb LM on Sons Creek a couple years ago while fishing for whites.
Aggressor1988long Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 And yes there is crappie that big, my dad had one on about 18inches and lost it at the boat in sons creek. He was sick over it.
