Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 15, 2007 Root Admin Posted January 15, 2007 Half way thru January... winter is passing fast. Boated up to the dam this am... crazy as that may seem to be. David Eckerle and I drifted a couple of things, trying a kind of new thing and several old ones. First I slid a plastic trout bead onto the line and tied on a hook, then slid the bead down within 2 inches of the hook and pegged it with a toothpick, broke it off. It was a washed out pink, about an 1/8 inch in diameter (they go by mm but I don't used them enough to know the difference yet). We use them in Alaska and this is the way we present them, fly or spin. Well I caught one on it and David caught 2 on a regular egg fly, yellow. David caught several anothers on an olive 1/8th oz jig. I caught one on a white jig (video). Made 3 drifts to KOA and called it quits. The wind was tough, esp being about 22 degrees out. the birds were swarming the turbines and outlet #1. Not sure why. Didn't see them pick anything up. Video - http://ozarkanglers.com/video/1-15-07a.wmv It's not much- too cold to even video much. But you can see how high the water is.
rainbow Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 That is a neat video. Lot's of water for sure.
Members alletec Posted January 16, 2007 Members Posted January 16, 2007 Good morning, Is the water running all night or are they just running through the day? I will be coming down in a week with my Father and Brother. I am planning on bringing bass stuff incase the trout have lock jaw. I may be down tomorrow to check out conditions and do a little scoutting. See ya soon. Jeff Alley Jeff Alley
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 16, 2007 Author Root Admin Posted January 16, 2007 I think 24 hours right now- till Table Rock crests I guess. Or the temps get back up and power demand drops.
vanven Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 I am planning on making it down monday through wednesday of next week. Will the water will be back down to a more wadeable level by then? I believe forcasts have the temps up to mid 40s from thursday through next week. -Jerod
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 16, 2007 Author Root Admin Posted January 16, 2007 Hard to say. I think we are supposed to get more rain so honestly- I wouldn't count on low water for a while.
vanven Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 Hmmmm. Now I am stuck on this one. Never had much luck when the dam is running water. I was hoping to get a few days in now so I can still justify the "Guys Trip" in April. I hate to push it off a few weeks and end up with a week where the temperature will be in the teens. -Jerod
