Dan the fisherman Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Without giving to much info away, I'm curious if anyone went out today. If so how was the bite. I'm wondering if the warm spell had helped the bite. I myself didn't want to mess with the windy conditions. But curious if y'all nailed them.

Dan the fisherman Posted January 18, 2015 Author Posted January 18, 2015 That's what I was Afraid of lol. Well ur a braver man than I. I didn't even a tempt it... Im assuming that there was white caps rising up too?
J-Doc Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Well I hadn't been out since Jan 1 so I had serious cabin fever. Wanted to test a new prop with a load on choppy water anyway so I can safely say.....MISSION ACCOMPLISHED on the choppy water. Keep in mind that I have an aluminum Ranger so the short tale below should be put into perspective. It rides great and it's fun in rough water but......big ole rollers that are 10ft wide are not fun in any boat. Even the glass bass boats were having problems and going airborne. I launched out of Prairie Creek around 1 and straight away, went out towards Coose and Rocky Branch. Wind to my back, 2ft chop in front of me. Boat plained out super quick and I was at full speed in no time. I chased down a big bass boat going into Coose. Driver was shocked when he turned around and saw me fly by as he settled down. Lol!! I only have a 115 so my little Ranger was "scootin". I didn't see fish at my spot so I left Coose. Going towards Ventris in the main lake, my boat became a "salad shooter". My boat was literally airborne between 3ft rollers that were 3ft deep and an out 3-4ft apart. As a Nitro passed me heading towards Prairie Creek, his wake made the chop and large waves even worse. I settled slowly to turn around. As I was turning around, really large waves about 10-15ft wide and 4ft high with 2ft rollers on top of that made me a bit nervous turning parallel with them. After I was facing the waves and Prairie Creek I debated whether or not to try and get on plane and ride on top of it or take it easy. After slowly getting on plane and skipping the tops at half throttle, I eventually kicked it up go 3/4 throttle and ride back into PC. Met up with another forum member at the dock and said "I'm not going back out there" :-) After the wind died down before dusk, I started finding fish. About the time I had to load up and leave. Figures. For me, fish were on main lake and not coves which is no surprise really. I expected that. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. Dan the fisherman Posted January 19, 2015 Author Posted January 19, 2015 Wow J-Doc. That sounds really ruff. But not fish since jan 1 is way to long with out being on the water. So I totally understand u on wanting to get out there. I have a 20 foot nitro and I'm still weery about getting out on super windy days. I could only imagine how ruff it was... I've been after striper all winter so I have no idea where the bass r.... But I'm planning on getting back to LMB fishing at the end of the month. Switch it up ya know. I'm kinda getting tired of trolling. I'm ready for some casting
J-Doc Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 So totally agree and understand that. I like a little change up myself. I saw a Nitro pass by (May have mentions that above?). If glass boats are having a hard time in it, I didn't feel too bad about my new Rt188 Ranger. I thought it did really well. Busting 50 on chop is fun. :-). I drive it like I stole it and the cops are on my tale. Lol!! I totally blame jolicious for that. I got spoiled to riding around in "the Beast" for a while. (Alpha 211 Legend with 250ProXS). Joe's philosophy on rough water?? "Just ride on top of it, it's smoother that way". Lol!! Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! Mike jones Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 They were eatin' today boys...over 23 pounds won the tournament out of prairie creek. 2nd was over 17 with 4 fish!!!
J-Doc Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Yep. I figured someone would do well but......man it's tough fishing in that much wind. Need marine repair? Dan the fisherman Posted January 19, 2015 Author Posted January 19, 2015 Heck ya. Those r nice weights. I maybe try to throw a jerk bait in the evening. Tomorrow is supposed to be real nice. Not too windy from what I've seen. Thinking I'll hit main lake points.
