I know that most of the area is out of in demand items, but would like to know if anyone has good info on where to get the following:

Heavy gauge extension cords

Space heaters, gas or electric (Lowes Ozark has electric 1/16)

D cell batteries (Walgreens Ozark 1/16)

Colemand fuel

Propane

Chain saw (Lowes Ozark 1/16)

I tacked on location and dates of what I found. While I am in good shape I am trying to get other folks up and running on their own.

If there is anyone with good generator know how I have several co workers looking for help. I just run a heavy gauge extension cord to my critical stuff. If there is a better way that is easy please post or send me a message.

Kerosene is not on the list, and I know a bunch of people have been looking for it. D&D Oil in Wheaton MO is supposed to have a fresh shipment delivered this afternoon. Call before making the trip @417 652 3935. I heard they sold 2000 gallons of it yesterday and many people were from the Springfield area. Those kersosene heaters don't work too well without it.

MOBass,

It's a bit out of the way, but the Wal-Mart in Chanute has 7 generators. If I remember right they were $525 and I "believe" around 5000 watts. I could pick some up and deliever your way if that helps. I also saw electric heaters, but no gas types. I'm sure they have plenty of batteries and such. PM me if I can help out.

Hermann's lumber on MM (between James River and I-44) has a big sign that they have generators. They don't get a lot of traffic there, so could be a good source.

I have worked in several flood / tornado etc situations and the best quickest way to get a reliable heavy duty extension cord is to use 14 ror 12 romex and put a plug on one end and a receptacle in a box on the other. Thl at gives two plug ins that can then be used for lighter cords or other emergency equiptment. You can usually buy this wire and the ends at any hardware or Lowes type store in various lengths or 250 foot roll.

If you are looking for generators, ext. cords and other equip. to have on hand for the next emergency, check out EBAY. You can buy a 6.5 hp. 4500w/3500w NEW generator for around $475 dollars SHIPPED. they also have heavy power cords, but I like Thom's idea better. I believe I would use a 12/2 w/groung romax and a weather proof receptacle box. If You have a gas/propane furnace, a 3500w generator should tie in to the furnace power and drive both the fan and thermostat. Be sure to shut off the furnace power breaker in the ckt. brkr. box. That way if the power comes on it will not hurt your generator. There should be plenty of generator power to run a frez.and refrig. plus a couple of 60-75w lights. These Generators normally run about 8hrs. on a tank of fuel (3-4gal). It normally takes about 5-9 days for delivery. If you go thru the "bid" process rather than the "buy it now", you may get an even better deal. I would recommend using a credit card through Pay Pal for the safest transaction. Check your lanterns, many of the later models will burn coleman type (white gas) fuel or reg. gasoline. Be sure to check before trying gasoline. Another good sorce of emerg light is the oil burning lamps and lanterns. Many places carry the oils for these and in the summer, they work great on the patio with citranela oil to chase mosquitos away. The oil/kerosene lanterns are great fishing lights as they will not draw bugs as does a gas/mantel lantern. Hope this helps some, Winter is just starting again! God Bless.....D.C.
