Members BIGBASSDAVEY Posted January 26, 2015 Members Posted January 26, 2015 Launched out of Monte Ne a little after noon, water temp was hovering just above 42 degrees. Idled around for a few minutes and found a brush pile with crappie (I was guessing) on it, couldn't get bit. So I pulled out my jerkbait rod and headed to a channel swing to try my luck on bass, after about 15-20 minutes of working down the bluff I twitched my bait into a solid wall, then I felt the head start shaking and the drag started being pulled out. After a good fight I pulled out my first fish of 2015. 5lb 13oz After a quick photo session and measurements I released her back into the water and continued down the bluff with no more bites. I ran to Nelson Hollow and caught two more short LM on a jerkbait. Then I went back to the brush pile where I started and pulled up a perch and a short crappie. All in all it was a good day, the bite was slow, but it was just a nice day to be on the water. fisherofmen11 1
jolicious Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Great way to start your year! Congratulations on a beauty!
dave potts Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Nice start to the year. You live in a great area. Mt son lives in Rogers, so I get down that way often.
Dan the fisherman Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Awesome fish. I tend to catch my biggest bass this time of the year. I haven't been able to stop striper fishing.. Definitly seeing that big old girl makes me want to stop trolling and get my jerk baits out. Lol. Thanks for report.
Members BIGBASSDAVEY Posted January 26, 2015 Author Members Posted January 26, 2015 Thanks guys. Yeah Dan, winter fishing can be tough but it does tend to lead to some of the largest catches of the year. Certainly bigger than any of the bass I caught on beaver in 2014
J-Doc Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Any day you catch a 5lb bass on Beaver is a good day. Those suckers are smart and tougher to catch. Well done sir. Thanks for sharing the photos too! Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
