LittleRedFisherman Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I posted this yesterday where Dave has been discussing the Ned rig. I put together a little kit, with the help of Ham, and a couple youtube vids. Went Friday with a friend who had never been smallmouth fishing. Fished thoughout the day trying different spots, with the Ned, Jerkbaits, and jigs. The action was slow but steady catching some spots and few smallies thoughout the day. My friend Mike even caught a good Largemouth on a deep diving crankbait in a pool. It was getting later in the day, so we decided to try this spot one more time, and I decided to give the last hour to the day all to the Ned, as I love to sling jerkbaits this time of year. Well, here's the results.. There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
Terrierman Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Were you in AR or MO if I may be so bold? And is that an Okuma reel?
LittleRedFisherman Posted January 28, 2015 Author Posted January 28, 2015 Good ole Fluegar President Rick, that's what all my spinning reels are! I was right around the Arkansas Border give or take bout 10 miles, not a bad drive from home.. My friend Mike has not seen this video, as a novice bass angler, he did catch a few fish, but this video does not do him justice, I apologize in advance..lol. But you can see how he's working the bait differently and his line is different, it had to make a difference as he was casting in the same spot.. There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
Terrierman Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Yeah, he could not keep his hand off the reel handle and that was probably the biggest difference. That and line size. A good rod can make a lot of difference too, but only if everything else is right.

Daughter had a ballgame tonight, and saw Mike there, he said he's getting some new line..lol We had fished this place earlier that day and caught very few, I think the bite really turned out bout then, talked another fellow that fished another river, that same time, and he said the same thing that the bite got hot. I really like the Nano, didn't think I would, but got used to tying the leader now, it's a non issue now... Terrierman 1 There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
drew03cmc Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Nice video! What size line/leader are you tossing? Andy
Terrierman Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I'm a nanofil believer now too. Thanks to our mutual friend Ham. I've figured out that Alberto knot is a lot easier to tie with four hands when you have eyes as old as mine. P.S. Hope your daughter's team won! rps and LittleRedFisherman 2
LittleRedFisherman Posted January 28, 2015 Author Posted January 28, 2015 Nice video! What size line/leader are you tossing? Thanks! 8 pound nano with 8 pound low vis mono Rick, they did win! Season winding down! There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
rFisherk Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Interesting. I've seen many times when one guy was outfishing another using the same bait. Everyone thinks of the right color first, but it is the presentation that makes all the difference: rod, line and the way you retrieve. I am, however, unfamiliar with the "Ned" rig, but I'm interested.
rFisherk Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Is the Ned rig a variation of the shakey head?
