Members ImperialAngler Posted January 31, 2015 Members Posted January 31, 2015 I'm new to the OAF page, but not new to fishing the streams in and around the Jefferson county area. Looking to get some advice on fishing some new streams this year. Thanks for having me!
Greasy B Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Welcome, do you fish Big River? His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. Members ImperialAngler Posted January 31, 2015 Author Members Posted January 31, 2015 Yes I do occasionally, I mostly fish mineral fork. But I have floated/fished big river from morse mill up to Rockford beach Smallieguy87 1
Greasy B Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 I have some fond memories of Big and MF trips, especially overnighters. Members ImperialAngler Posted February 1, 2015 Author Members Posted February 1, 2015 Ive been thinking about trying an overnighter, like a 2 day canoe float and camp out on a gravel bar, that'd be fun!
Smallieguy87 Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Mineral fork is where i started fishing smallmouth. Welcome to the forums! Huzzah can be good fishing if you go during the week to avoid the crowds as well as courtois. I've got some time on the big as well it can be difficult to fish at times but there's some big smallies there.
Members ImperialAngler Posted February 5, 2015 Author Members Posted February 5, 2015 Ive actually never fished the huzzah or cortois but its on my list this year. And yea the big does hold some nice smallies, biggest ive got out of there was 15" Smallieguy87 1

And yea the big does hold some nice smallies, biggest ive got out of there was 15" That sounds about right. The biggest i've landed there was around 15. I did hook into one that went 18 or better and went to lip him and right as i did he came unbuttoned. I was throwing an olive and orange jig with a green pumpkin craw trailer on an old busted up low water bridge. At the time a friend of mine owned the access to the land and i wish he still did. Huzzah i fished last July during the middle of the week. I just waded up stream from the actual huzzah camp ground and fished for about 3 hours and managed to catch about 25 smallies and 1 largemouth. A friend i took with caught about a dozen smallmouth and some sunfish. The bite seemed best on 4 inch pumpkin grubs and 3.5inch tubes.
Members ImperialAngler Posted February 6, 2015 Author Members Posted February 6, 2015 Right on! I seem to do best on 3" gulp minnows or 5" chart/pumpkinseed worm wacky rigged. But ive caught alot on nice smallies on mini cranks, jointed minnows,or crappie jigs. Have you ever fished the Bootleg access on big river?
Members ImperialAngler Posted February 6, 2015 Author Members Posted February 6, 2015 Im still trying to get that 18" smallie for a master angler award. My best is 16.5" on MF, using a gulp minnow.Got a nice 18" largemouth outta joachim last summer on a wacky rig Smallieguy87 1
