Such a beautiful day I had to get out. Four of us went and each of us came back with our limits! We were fishing our typical winter time pattern. We hung close to the channel edges, fished brush, logs, rocks, etc... in 25-30 feet of water 16'-22' deep. The water has gotten much colder since the first of January, (parts of the lake just thawed a week ago), the biggest key is to fish slow. When you think you are fishing slow, slow down some more!!!! Used jigs blue and glow chartreuse (I'm sure other colors were working, just never put anything else on).

I've been checking pre-spawn brush piles, the fish are starting to move to them. There are a few fish showing up on the graph and a few bites (not enough to have a productive trip). If the weather stays nice this transition will probably start picking up speed, if however we have more winter weather in store (can someone please shoot that groundhog!), it will take another 30 days or so.

Good luck and hope your live wells are full!

Brad

dangit. I wanted to go this weekend but the wind report backed me off. glad to hear you had good luck. I bought a new lowrance gps locator at BP this weekend and am dying to get it installed and try it out. And by the way about that ground hog, the boss dug him up and put in a dump truck and I buryed him real deep. He wont see his shadow again. good report. I'll honk on my way by. Stacey

Thanks for the report. I don't really pay that much attention to a ground hog that is forced to go out of his fancy little house. But I have had a lot of ole timers tell me that when the buzzards return winter is over. Now I'm not saying we won't have any more cold weather, but a friend told me he seen a buzzard eat a dead animal this past week.

I have also heard of some limits of crappie being taken below the dam at Warsaw. Think I will have to go check it out tomorrow.

Stacey,

Your brother and I are planning on a trip on Saturday. Come on down and lets go!

Thunderchicken,

Good luck at Warsaw. I know this is a Pomme thread but let us know how it goes.

Had somethings come up didn't get to go. Talked to a guy up there. Done really good catching below the dam.

Don't know for sure but I may try to hit Bolivar landing this afternoon noon. Don't know how the drop of the lake will effect fishing from the docks.

Went back today. Fishing was great until the wind shifted and the front started coming through. I had 11 in an 1 1/2 hours, only keeping the nice, no doubters. I threw several keepers back. However when the wind came from the north (it started to blow like we were in Kansas), the temp fell drastically (or it felt like it). I fought it for about 30 minutes, the trolling motor was 3/4 of the way turned up and still kept getting pushed up on the bank. Decided to give it up and get back to the office.
