fishbait3 Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Hey fellas when do the spoonville come up, got a new bass rod im wanting to see if it holds up. SO far i have never had an issue with catching bills with my medium heavy bass rod i use
jbooth24 Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 I myself use a medium heavy bass casting rod and have a blast when i go. Now i leave that for my wife to do since she would rather catch them than any other fish LOL My wife is the same way she wants to catch one and keep it as a pet fishbait3 1
J.M. Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 I have caught them throwing a net off the bank at the warm water outlet a few years ago. Sean_Reynolds 1
MSUFisherBear Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Long time no post, but here before too much longer the shad will start working the flats on the lake. I've seen people use cast nets for them. Personally I like a minnow trap as it keeps the size down a bit (I like using them to fish for crappie and bluegill). The lake does get hit pretty hard, but it's like anywhere else. you just have to know how to change it up enough so that the fish aren't seeing the same bait thrown at them all the time (and I do see it a lot on Springfield). Hope you get the shad you are after. Sean_Reynolds 1 There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind. ~Washington Irving
Members Sean_Reynolds Posted March 24, 2015 Author Members Posted March 24, 2015 Thanks for the info. If anyone sees them start to school up heavily I'd appreciate a heads up if possible, thanks again.
Members crappiekayaker Posted March 25, 2015 Members Posted March 25, 2015 I forgot about this post. I seen a few jumping below the dam a few days ago. I couldn't tell how big of a school it was but they were shallow. Right in front of the middle island.
Members Schenk781 Posted March 25, 2015 Members Posted March 25, 2015 If you have a vessel to make it out there, the dead lilly pad field on the other side of the grass beds across from the closed boat ramp was full of them yesterday. 3" -5"gizzards Sean_Reynolds 1
Members Schenk781 Posted March 25, 2015 Members Posted March 25, 2015 A good place I've always found a plethora of the 1" - 2" shad is out front of the walnuts springs boat ramp on table rock james river arm. You could walk on water.. i mean shad backs
