HEADED TO TUNNEL DAM/LAKE NIANQUA....ANY POINTERS?

we made the trip....arrived at the lake around 9 am.. what an ugly way to get there but definetly worth it. what a pretty place. there is approx. 20-30 acres of old lily pads filled with ducks....gadwalls , mallards, geese, and even a swan. the lake is much shallower than I had planned. in the main lake we really never found more than 12 feet of water at the deepest but there where big schools of 3-4 inch shad. there was very little in the way of structure out in the water( couple of beaver dams and trees that have fallen in the water) half a dozen old boat docks, some in just 2 ft of water. the guy I was fishing with caught a 14-15inch smallie on a ned rig (sweet-tater-pie)by one of the deeper docks which might have been 4ft deep. towards the upper end of the lake it gets fairly flat. the channel you want to run in (7-9ft deep) is littered with stumps that are 4 inches under the surface!! once up in the river (approx. two miles of idling) we did catch half dozen nice fish.

all-in-all this place is really cool...some little, old lake side cabins, a lot of them in disrepair. I imagine this place 70 yrs ago was "the" place to go. it wouldn't take too long to learn this body of water and should be a great place to duck hunt if that is open to the public. this was a neat "adventure" and I will definatly go back.
