Put in at Mutton 10am water temp 37.1. Tried stick bait, grub and jig from twin bridge area to birch and up to greaser on bluffs and swings not a bite. Tried main lake point 5 area on channel banks nothing. Went back to sons creek found some 40.6 water again hit bluffs and channel swings. Tried proven baits on great banks that have worked for me for years. Got skunked sorry no help.

Sounds like the same patterns and areas i tried Saturday with the same results. Wind was blowing 15 mph and harder though so made it tough to fish any main lake areas in my little boat. Got a few different tricks i am going to try this weekend to see if i get better results. Trying to decide if i wanna try the same part of the lake or head over to the Cedar Ridge area...decisions, decisions.

Glad to hear you guys are trying it in the cold water. I do it too. my favorite time to fish. Here is a little something from the old guy. When the water is below 40 degrees the sun is your friend. Try to find banks that it hits all day long. A jig might catch them but a Jerk Bait is probably as good of a choice. If the bank has big rock remember that they soak up heat. Kind of like you standing next to a metal building on a sunny day. If you can get a couple of sunny days in a row you might be in good shape. Also remember that the temp you are reading is on the surface. That does not necessarily have anything to do with the temp 40 feet below the boat. Might be 43 or 44 down there. A digital thermometer on a long cord that will give you a temp at boatside could be a good investment. Just two degrees more temp above this 40 degree thing is huge. If fishing in the sun and clear water take advantage of a shiny Jerk Bait. L-O-N-G pauses between Jerks, slack line before and after Jerks. I honestly put the rod on the deck sometimes and just watch the line.

One good thing is that in another week this probably won't apply. Good fishing is close. On the other hand ALL FISHING is good fishing.

another hint for thowing a jerker is to sit down because you will be more relaxed and not as tempted to twitch too soon or twitch too hard. 15 seconds feels like a long time but actually at times its way too short a pause. walcra ive never put the rod down but ive paused at times for three and four minutes and it can be misery hahaha!!!!! think i'll try the rod on deck technique next cold snap hopefully next january and sit back and puff on a good cigar for luck.

Thanks for the tips have been hitting north facings banks with rocks for many years but have not tried pausing that long. I'm lucky to wait 5 to 10 seconds. Minutes, tween twitching wow thats gonna be tuff.
