Members dustin.hutchison91 Posted April 11, 2015 Members Posted April 11, 2015 i just wish i knew the area better as of right now we are going? where were you tearing em up at crappie?
crappie_adams83 Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 Yes colton I was at Taylor's and throwing white roosters chartreuse swimming minnows and a couple other things but yes I was at Taylor's but the majority of the bite was being bounced along the bottom if every body had a pole and a fish on the line there would never be a war
Daveinozark Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 I was on the banks from 11-3, didn't get any. Tons of boats running full throttle. from the looks of it, they were only getting a few dinks so I don't feel bad. it was way too crowded to be enjoyable. I'll stick to less crowded sections of the James and Finley
ollie Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 I finally got the chance to fish Blunks last night. I fished it last year and only caught one. This time the score was 3-0 my favor! Got there around 4 ish and put in the yak to paddle upstream to Taylor Shoals. When I was getting ready several boats and people were coming off the water. Didn't see a one stringer of whites being brought in. One boat did however have 3 spoonies that were of decent size that I saw. Paddling upstream I saw several whites jumping around so this was looking good to me. The water was faster than what I was hoping for , but it was doable in the yak. Actually I wished I had had a boat with a motor, my arms got tired! After making it up to the shoals I started fishing behind fallen timber on the shallow side of the river. No luck there so I went to the other side that has the slab rock. It paid off fast for me. First cast had a nice one on, but unhooking it and keeping that one in the boat was a different story. Caught two more really nice ones in about a five minute span then nothing again the rest of the outing. Everyone I talked with said they were finding them slow as well. I think they are just spread out due to the higher water. I was throwing a small fluke in smoking shad to catch mine. "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
Roger Craig Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Going to try and make it this evening after I get off work this afternoon. Now how far up river is Taylors, going to walk upstream tonight for a change I think, I keep gettin stampeded on downstream.
crappie_adams83 Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Park at blunks and walk the trail it's about a good half to three quarter mile hike to the shoal if every body had a pole and a fish on the line there would never be a war
Roger Craig Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Thanks was hoping it was farther lol, less peeps. We are heading that way, hopefully it won't rain right when I get there lol.
vonreed Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 It gets pretty crowded up at Taylor Shoals also. The opposite bank from the gravel bar is the best, up against the bluff side of the river. But it's difficult to get over there without a kayak.
