Kayser Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Anyone finding fish in the pre-spawn or spawning stages? Fished a large reservoir and got one big black from some rip-rap on a windy bank two days ago, muddy water. Going to try a pond that's a little closer to home today, see if I can find anything staging in pre-spawn or otherwise. Not looking for specific locations, but trying to get a feel for when the fish are moving up where. The big one should be moving soon, I hope. WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. mjk86 Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Was at busch last weekend, and got blanked looking for deep fish, my brother the next day looked shallow and found a few.. The lake has a 30ft hole, and lots of 20ft water, but 80% is 6-8ft deep grassy flat. Usually in the spring the crappie move from that deep hold out over the flat and stay in that grass til october. Seems to me that things are progressing pretty quickly this year, but this cold front will change all that im sure.
ruthead Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Buddy has caught nice pond crappie the last 2 weekends full of eggs. "Pretty soon we may not have any rights left because it might infringe on someone's rights"
Kayser Posted March 30, 2015 Author Posted March 30, 2015 Pond crappie were mostly deep yet on Wednesday, with a couple nicer blacks coming shallower. But I'm off the water for a few weeks, just too busy. WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
