3/28/15 Report

Location: Mid Lake

Air Temp: 62

Water Temp: 49-52

Visibility: 4-5 FOW

Depth: 10-14 FOW

Lures: Crankbait and Swimbait

4 Total Fish: 1 LM (16"), 1 Spot (16"), 1 SM (18"), 1 legal walleye (19")

Fished mid-lake Saturday afternoon. The 4 fish that were caught were all on rock/gravel points in 10-14 FOW. The legal walleye came on a crankbait. The conditions were post frontal and the wind was out of the north at 15+. I didn't mark many fish on points or flats, but did find a large number of suspended fish in cuts over 30-35 FOW.

Location: Mid Lake

Air Temp: 75

Water Temp: 52-57

Visibility: 2-3 FOW

Depth: 14-18 FOW

Lures: Crankbait

23 Total Fish: 1 LM (23"), 8 WB (up to 18"), 2 short walleye, 12 crappie + 2 (11-14.5")

Fished mid-lake Monday afternoon. The fish were all caught in the same area in 14-18 FOW over and near brush piles. Had a large striper freight train me. Wind was swirling and strong at times today. The bite turned on around noon once the water temperature hit 54 F. Marked quite a bit of bait and fish today, in contrast to Saturday. Met Fins on the water and we fished in the same area for part of the afternoon. He donated 2 crappie to the total as he has a freezer full of them already.

When I was loading up getting ready to head home Gary Yamamoto pulled up next to me. He was prefishing for FLW and he indicated it was a tough day for him. Nice guy and more than willing to chat.

What you do in a Yak..........

It's just incredible. And inspiring.

One day this summer, I'm going to have to take you up on the offer to take your spare and see what it's about. :=B:

I will remind you to eat your Wheaties before we go. I don't want to have to tow you back to the ramp late in the day. :secret-laugh:

Are you using a billed or lipless crankbait? Are you casting or trolling it with your paddles?

The past week I used billed crankbaits that dive 6-8 feet casting and 12-14 feet trolled. The later in year the deeper the diver I will typically use, although I will find fish with the electronics first, identify the depth they are holding, then match the lure to the desired depth. I cast, troll, and stroll with them, depending on the conditions. The crappie came trolling and the largemouth came strolling. The largemouth bite came after the lure made contact with the brush pile.
