How do you not fish on a day like yesterday. Got home loaded the boat and grabbed my oldest boy. Plan was to look for whites, and if none, go to the walleye hole. About 3 miles down Indian Creek road my cheapness decided to rear its head when a tire on the boat gave out. Of course being so close to the lake I thought "eh, I don't need to tote around a spare with me......" Thankfully the wife was obliged to bring me one from the house.

So I finally managed to get it on, get it aired up....., and hit the water about 6. Went to where I have been waiting for the whites to congregate and low and behold they have decided to finally show up for the party! I know its just getting started, but even so its just amazing to see that many fish on your sonar.

They hit a flicker shad right off the bat, but then I had some trouble getting them to bite again and the trash in the water was seriously hindering the cranks from running correctly. So I shut down the big motor and used the electric with some Alabama rigs over the side. Caught two more that way, and one when they started busting the top and I threw out a single road runner with grub on it.

All in all not a bad trip for such a short one. Had to get the boy back for dinner and bed, and I then had to go into work for a few hours. I will be getting some new grubs today for the A-rigs and heading back out with both the boys in tow this time - along with a spare tire.

Water temp was 54.5 pretty steady. A-rigs have some road runners(not sure of the weight but thinking 3/8oz) with bucktail center trailers. White on one side, chartreuse on the other. Both were pretty faded and the bite only came on the white side. Hoping that some fresh color will help.

Water was 20'-30' and they were all over the water column. I felt like I was too high, then too low, finally I just put one high and one low and let her rip. Did not have much time to try small steps up and down, so I'll be trying that tonight.

Clarity is very low, lots of trash. Had to clean the lines quite a bit. They are not quite ready yet, there were a couple other guys out there that did not look like they were catching(I could be wrong though), but I think things will take off in the next two weeks. Three were females full of eggs, one a male.

Sorry, no pictures, but I'll try to remember them tonight. Hope its a repeat of yesterday just a tad better because my boys will love it.

Nice report Nathan. It is really nice to have numbers of fish start showing up in seasonal locations .

To add to this, I took the boys out yesterday. Hard to fish on a weekday with the boys, getting them back for bed for school in the morning. But they each got to reel in one so it was not a total bust. The fish are there, but they are not hot on the bite yet. It is still a week or so before I really started catching them last year, but I am hoping things will pick up. I would like to take the boys and wear them out reeling in the fish. I have seen a few guys up there, but still never seen one reel anything in. May go out this weekend.

Thanks a lot Nathan.. Iv been boat less for weeks it feels like ( 9 days ) lol. But I really appreciate the report. Ur report will give me a starting point when I hit the water again. So were u fishing over by the dam or up river by point 12? I've heard people say they catch whites in Indian creek area. I've never tried it that far north.

Its actually up the Indian Creek arm. Ive heard they are by the dam also, but have yet to venture over there. I still think they have not kicked into high gear though. I could be wrong. This may just be an off year. But for the previous two years with the right lure you could load them into the boat one after another. I see big schools of them, and can even tell when they follow my lures, but they seem disinterested.

I have to wonder just how quickly you could load the boat with one tiny stick of dynamite.......lol
