Amery Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 I can't stand the crowds at the normal white bass spots but I love white bass on the fly rod. I grew up in Winslow and I fish lake fort smith. Might not have the hybrids or walleye but for someone who likes slinging that rod it's hard to beat. Solitude, beauty, and of course fish. There is a parking spot on the upper end of the lake and if you cross the creek there is a very wad able section. We caught several this evening and another week it should be on like donkey kong. I caught my fish on a clouser. If anyone needs more info send me a pm.
Guest Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 its too bad they decided to rope off the dam area with buoys. Really hurts your ability to get around those big schools of fish. Shepherd Springs was by far my favorite lake until the combined them both.
Amery Posted April 27, 2015 Author Posted April 27, 2015 Yea they have nearly a 1/3 of the entire lake blocked. It's crazy. I miss the days when it was under construction. Best fishing of my life. They eventually drained Shepard down to just a few acres. I caught an 18 1/2" crappie when it was like that.
Members Chef of the Sea Posted April 28, 2015 Members Posted April 28, 2015 Any word if the whites are still down there?
Amery Posted April 28, 2015 Author Posted April 28, 2015 I haven't been, last time they seemed to be actively spawning and not interested in feeding much. I'm sure they are still around.
Members Dan Sweeney Posted April 29, 2015 Members Posted April 29, 2015 I have drill again this weekend and will likely stop to check it out again Sunday afternoon/evening. Maybe the sunfish won't distract me this time and I'll actually stay downstream and check out the whites. Amery 1 Silence is golden.
