Members dustin.hutchison91 Posted April 8, 2015 Members Posted April 8, 2015 Being a pond fishing fiend from central arkansas im not real use to the rivers of missouri yet. I dont see many people targeting cats on the james. Why is this? Also where do you go if you wana catch a few around here? Any insight would be helpfull.
Fishslayer88 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Pick a spot. I like deep pools below fast water in the upper river. Best baits are sucker minnows, grasshoppers, cut shad and river shiners. If you can't throw a cast net learn how they are worth their weight in gold.

vonreed Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 There are catfish every several hundred yards on average on the James. They are very easy to catch, just find a seam between fast and slow water and they should be there. That's what me and my boys do after the white bass return to the lake. Minnows, Crawdads, And the best is Leopard Frogs. We catch tons of catfish this way, but rarely anything over 5lbs. Good luck.
Flysmallie Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I've seen herds of them on occasion from Kerr to Galena. Hundreds of fish in the 2 to 3 lb range. They will swim past your canoe and it's like watching a long train. They just keep going by.
jbooth24 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Going to try for them this summer. I plan on running a trout line this summer also when I float hootentown to galena.
