Members Bobby Bucketmouths Posted April 16, 2015 Members Posted April 16, 2015 Hey guys, I'm a sophomore at the University of Arkansas, I've spent alot of time catching white bass and largemouth from the bank the last couple of years but I really want to get after some stripers. If I rent a kayak from the school's rec center would it be worth it to take it over to Beaver in search of striped bass? If so where should I go and what should I use? These fish are totally foreign to me as I grew up on Table Rock, thanks for all the help!
hoglaw Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 There's a couple of guys on here who chase stripers in kayaks. I don't like being out on big water in a little boat myself so it's not my thing. I stick to the protected waters with my kayak. But FF and YakFM should be able to put you onto something with a kayak.
Members Beaverdamstore Posted April 16, 2015 Members Posted April 16, 2015 Last week we found them near the hwy12 bridge. I didn't hook any but Sean did get 3 using live brood minnows. There was tons of bait fish near the island. Maybe someone has been there more recently. Jim
M_Taylor Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Might try around Prairie Creek too. I like to throw Rogues and swimbaits for them. I recommend a high vis flag on your kayak!
Members Bobby Bucketmouths Posted April 16, 2015 Author Members Posted April 16, 2015 Alright, thanks alot guys! How deep should I be fishing for them?
Feathers and Fins Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Definitely have a Flag on the Yak for safety Launch at 12 bridge and work your way to Bear island then to the NW corner of Deer Island. Use brooder minnows and you should lock in to one. DO NOT do it on the weekend for safety sake please. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Feathers and Fins Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 From a Yak with Brooders, Let one out on a free-line 100 ft back and one on a split shot line 50 ft back. Its simple fishing. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Members Bobby Bucketmouths Posted April 16, 2015 Author Members Posted April 16, 2015 Alright thanks for all the help! I'll be on the water this afternoon and I'll let y'all know how it goes!
J-Doc Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Totally foreign?? Why do Table Rock folks think they don't have any. Lol!! Stripers were around the islands at 12 bridge. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
Stump bumper Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 The no wake zone around Prairie creek might be a good place to find some surface activity around sunrise and safe enough place to paddle around. The boats will slow down at the bridge also but the wakes can get rough around there and a stiper will take you for a ride. Good luck and be careful.
