Forsythian Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I can't believe the C&R season is almost over, and I'm just now gonna make the trip. I'll be there saturday from horn to horn with my 12 year-old boy, we'll be in a red GMC crew-cab. The weather looks more "winterish" than today: Saturday Considerable cloudiness with a 30 percent chance of light rain or light snow. Temperatures nearly steady in the mid 30s. North winds 10 to 15 mph. I'm worried the N breeze will kill any chance for a dry fly bite, but it should make the fish a little less skittish. Cmon over and say hello if you're there... we're gonna try to hit the flyshop as well and say "thanks" for all the great reports on this thread. Cenosillicaphobiac
Danoinark Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Good luck, because of the anticipated weather you may get by without much of a crowd...Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
ollie Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Let us know how it goes. I was thinking of heading down there myself on Sunday if it's not too terrible outside. Oh wait, I have to do clean-up of the ice storm. Maybe I can talk the warden into it! cpriest Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 ill be up there in the morning, drive an olive jeep grand cherokee with a roof rack, and will probably be wearing an oversized indiana jones hat with hair coming out all sides of it
Terry Beeson Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Snowing in Nixa and Springfield. May make for a good morning of fishing if it's similar at RR... Good luck! Forsythian Posted January 28, 2007 Author Posted January 28, 2007 Well, we made it & started fishing about 10:00 Saturday. It was a bit slow, neither of us got our 10th fish before the 4:00 horn. My 12 year old boy pitched maribous for the most part... black and brown being the best. He also drifted globalls. It would take me less time to type what I didn't try! But, I'd have to say that stripping a brown leach and drifting a copper john were my two best patterns (as it were). There weren't many fishing I thought, and tho it was cold it sure was good to get out. Cenosillicaphobiac
cpriest Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 Well i made it to RR aroung 1030 and fished for about an hour without much luck. I met a guy from Tulsa who was catching a few nice fish, and he gave me a few egg patterns that he tied on a jig head, and i started catching a fish or two. I broke my leader on one and had to go back to the car where i had a message that i needed to get back home, no emergency, but enough of a problem to where i couldnt have said "sorry i never received that message....?" anyways pale orange eggs are working but the fishing is extremely technical. They would take the fly and the indicator didnt even move! hopefully ill get back before the season "opens" so i can avoid the crowds
