Members oldasdirt Posted May 26, 2015 Members Posted May 26, 2015 Is the lake fish able after all the rain. How bad is it any reports.
Bird Watcher Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 I went yesterday. Lake was like the Mississippi river above aspen wall/bee creek but was backed up below that. Not as much flow as I would have guessed. I looks like they are holding some back. Probably can't release due to the mess at Texoma dumping into the Arkansas. Caught a few blues, they weren't biting like I thought they would be, or I was in the wrong spot. I really think they might have been up in the flooded vegetation or closer to it. I was fishing the submerged islands out in the middle of the channel around the port Arthur area. I would bet the flipping bite for Largemouth is hot right now.
5bites Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 It's 749.91 now which is pretty darn high for grand. You only need 744 to make an excuse to flip a few willows and 745 to be excited about it. I imagine it's a little trashed right now I can't remember fishing it this high. It might be fantastic though. I'd expect lots of debri floating down the lake so be very careful. Select your ramp carefully lol. Wolf Creek ramp is out lol. It's flat enough when the lake is normal.
Members oldasdirt Posted May 26, 2015 Author Members Posted May 26, 2015 I don't know that much about Ramps on grand and yes I was going to use wolf. I'll be staying at the casino in senica any suggestion would be a help I'll be there this weekend.
Bird Watcher Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Go put in at Iron horse and flip the flooded island right in front of it. Jason Christie won and FLW doing just that a couple years ago with high water.
5bites Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 That will be mud there right now. Also the fish will be scattered waaaaaaay waaaaaay all over that thing. Putting in at a river just seems like a bad idea to me. The farthest up elk I would put in would be number 10. Plenty of willows to flip in the area. Personally I'd launch at terra Miranda and fish from wolf creek to honey creek but that's me. You likely won't launch at wolf though because the water is way up in the flat parking lot. This is why I suggest terra Miranda. I may be spelling that wrong.

5bites Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 The weekend may be better as things settle in. Keep the old bank line in mind. Also keep steeper banks in mind if you believe the fish are to scattered. I'd definitely start on willows at the mouths of coves though for sure. Here's a link to the water level. It's came up a half foot since I posted this morning. http://www.swt-wc.usace.army.mil/PENS.lakepage.html
Bird Watcher Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Here's a link to a youtube video of Jason Christie catching 80lbs out of the flooded willows I circled above in 2013 during an FLW tournament. It might give you some ideas about how the lake fishes during high water. https://youtu.be/XtfMYERXcZs
Bird Watcher Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Just saw this on Bassmaster. Edwin Evers fishing Grand live on Thursday for three hours. Might give you some ideas. http://www.bassmaster.com/news/watch-evers-fish-grand-lake-live-thursday
