It's getting off topic but I've tried to attach a picture of a 15lb carp I caught when I was MUCH younger in the creek I grew up on. I caught and landed a bigger one the day before and gave it to guy that watched me catch it. He had to pick his jaw up off the ground to tell me "thank you". He also asked me "just what kind of fishin' outfit is that?". In the 10 years I lived there I only knew one other fly fisherman in the area. I guess you could say I was fly fishin' when fly fishin' wasn't cool.

I use my fish food flies in our catfish pond when we feed them. A catfish on the fly rod is a blast. They pull and pull and pull some more.

I have done something similar with carp at the Lake of the Ozarks you can make a egg fly in the same color as the food pellet and make it sink or make one that floats by adding floaty stuff (forgot what it is called) works great on carp where they feed them. I'm sure it would work on the trout

I had a similar reaction on another site several years ago when I talked about a fly that I modified after learning from Tim to tie one of Tims favorite flys at RR. I told people that I could catch trout any time I went to Bennet and they immediatly assumed I was either shuffling or using a leather leach or a San Juan worm.

My question is are SJworms legal at Bennett? how bout the leather/chamois leach? I was told they were not legal and yet I saw some for sale at the fly shop so I didnt know if you had to use them in the river only and not Bennett.

Does anyone know if they are legal??

I have used Green yarn balls in the Catch and release areas with good results, espcially the C&Rs down in the mid stream areas.

The area down from Rileys on White River, I drifted green match the hatch yarn balls and did very well. lots of solid 3 lb fish Rainbows.

Have not tried it on other areas.

Yes it was carolina rigged.

I have used all of the above at BSP and cant think of a single reason why any of them would considered illegal.... hope I never haver to test the system tho

I have shown the leather san juan worm to all the game wardens here at Roaring river and they don't have any problems with the fly as long as it is not scented they don't care. I don't know about bennett but they are ok here at Roaring River.

they are legal in the fly only area so long as they are on a single point of hook, not scented, and not soft plastic.

the missouri law regarding what a "fly" is is ridiculous. a rapala with a single one point hook is legally a fly, along with single point rooster tails, and any other lure you can think of so long as it only has one hook point, is not scented, and is not soft plastic.

also, there is a bait only- no flies or artificial lures- area where i have seen people using minnows and other types of natural, scented, or soft plastic baits with a fly rod.

Cute animals taste better.

Hasn't there been a "No Fly Rod Rule" put on zone three at Bennett (tho its not worded that way) after the new definitions or regulations came out in the last couple of years?
