Members Brent-T Posted January 3, 2006 Members Posted January 3, 2006 Hello everybody! I've lurked on these forums long enough, and I finally thought it was time to get involved. I was born in Wyoming, and grew up on the San Juan river, where I learned to flyfish, but live in Branson now and split my time between Taney and Table Rock. Having only lived here for a year, I'm still learning the ropes of both waters and really love this forum for swapping info. My father is a long time striper guide on Lake Texoma (20 years), and that is what I know better than anything, so if anyone needs info on Texoma or Istriper fishing in general, that's my bread and butter. But, if it swims, I go after it, so I look forward to frequenting this forum. Phil, great looking site. Big improvement from the old one. BTW, I'm still waiting on a call to sub for the softball team. That's as good of an excuse as any for the knees to hurt. Jeremy, if your moderating, just wanted to say what's up. Hopefully, I'll see you at the tying class Tuesday. Don't block too many of my posts! Tight lines everyone. Brent Taylor
tippet7 Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Hello and welcome Brent. I am from Colorado myself, grew up in Longmont. Spent many days fishing in Wyoming on her lakes and rivers. do you use the fly rod for stipers? that would be a lot of fun I would think. John You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.

The surface activity on Texoma is incredible, and with the amount of fish, and the birds to direct you, can be pretty easy at times. My biggest striper on the fly is 23 lbs. I have a 50 pounder, but that came out of Arkansas. Texoma isn't really a trophy lake, but if you want to get into a trainload of 5-15's, that's the place. Nothing tricky either, just a shad imitation in white or chartreuse, or if they're feeding, something that creates a ruckus on the surface. For the most part, I don't think that the fly can keep up with traditional tackle, but it's a nice change of pace, and a hell of a lot of fun on an 8 wt. I noticed the Semper Fi signature. Former Jarhead myself. Ooh Rah.
tippet7 Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Ooh Rah. I was in from Jan 83-Dec 95 Camp Pen 83-86 MCRD PISC 86-88 8th MCD R/S Oklahoma City 88-91 (Murrah bldg was my HQ) MCRD PISC 91-94 1st FSSG Camp Pen 94-95 You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
Members Brent-T Posted January 3, 2006 Author Members Posted January 3, 2006 We probably crossed paths. I was in 91-95. Okinawa at Camp Foster for the first year, then a couple of floats to the Phillipines, and then the rest at Pendleton with 11th Marines out at Las Pulgas. Good to see you sporting the colors on the forum.
tippet7 Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Your kidding me? I paid the Cannon Cockers! I cant remember the name of the Admin Chief, but I have a very cool going away plaque from the 11th Marines that is hanging on my wall at home! If you were there from Nov 94 thru Dec 95, I was your Disbursing SNCOIC. You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
Members Brent-T Posted January 3, 2006 Author Members Posted January 3, 2006 Copy that. That's pretty cool. I'm the Project Director out at Stonebridge Village, so if you're out this way, stop in. Anything to do with fishing, hunting, or golfing, and I'm in.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 7, 2006 Root Admin Posted January 7, 2006 Brent- John has all the phone numbers... didn't you know that!! Need I say more!??!? We have alot in common- I was born in Denison and grew up fishing the lake with my grandfather- mostly trolling for sand bass and setting trotlines. Been back fishing the tailwater for stripers but it's been along time since then. I'm sure you have some good Texhoma stories to share! Thanks for being on the forum- looking forward to spring softball!! Side note - the pics you attached are too big... downsize them and edit the post and they'll come up better. If you have problems editing the pics, send them to me and I'll do it for you phil@lilleyslanding.com Phil
Members Brent-T Posted January 17, 2006 Author Members Posted January 17, 2006 I've got a great striper picture. Still trying to figure out how to downsize it.
Members Brent-T Posted January 17, 2006 Author Members Posted January 17, 2006 This is my 50 pounder caught in Arkansas last year. No, it's not Beaver (someone's going to have to trade one of their secret spots for mine!) I also caught a 32 pounder the following day. For a guy that has caught stripers his whole life, those were definitely the crowning achievement.
