Members slabseeker Posted February 9, 2007 Members Posted February 9, 2007 I got out on Wappapello last Saturday for some crappie fishing. It was one of the worst days I have ever had - conditions and success. Lake level was approx. 356 and falling, plus a stiff 25+ mph wind out of the west made fishing the channel impossible, and all of the coves/creeks that we checked were frozen. I have been fishing there almost 20 years and don't remember Lost Creek being frozen completely, and it was. The water was really clear for Wappapello and was a nice green color. We could see our jig almost 5-6ft down, which is real unusual. I have very little tolerance for wind, so we fought it for a while with no success, finally found a spot out of the wind, located some fish about 15-20 ft deep, but could not get them to bite. Finally concluded that it just wasn't to be, so we kicked back, watched our floaters, and enjoyed a steaming cup of cup-a-soup. I have never had much success when the lake is falling, but that doesn't stop me from going. I will try it again this Sat. Lake is at winter pool and almost stable. If the wind doesn't kill us, we might be able to catch a few along river channel.
