polock Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 a few times back i was down fishing above welch (took the next gravel north of welch spring gravel). i went through a bunch of these government fields, and drove down to a gravel bar and looked across the river and i could see a small cave with a waterfall running out of it.. wondering what the name of it was.. i put on my waders and walked over to it but all i found was a big sign that said i wasn't suppost to be there and that it was a conservation agent area only. so i didn't the right thing... i walked around and explored the area and admired the view for a while then went back to my truck:D ice was forming on the rocks when i was there, the one time i didn't pack my camera and i found this.. photo conditions were perfect too, cloudy but not too dark. really brought out the greens of the watercrest and alge on the rocks.
10pointer Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 i believe it is medlock cave and spring if i remember correctly...i may be wrong but this one im thinking of is in the area you are talking about. heres a link with a pic of the cave... http://www.jadwincanoe.com/medlock.html
polock Posted February 7, 2007 Author Posted February 7, 2007 yeah thats it... it was really running the day i was there though
10pointer Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 we always float that stretch of river and always stop up at the cave... nothin beats that icy cool air and water coming out of the cave on a hot summer day!
polock Posted February 7, 2007 Author Posted February 7, 2007 dang right... we always motor up to panther springs cave from our cabin above doniphan.. you can walk up a ways in it.. we usually walk until our feet get too numb
2sheds Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Definitely Medlock Cave. Its on the west shore of the Current, around mile #95 on the Ozark national Scenic Rivers Map <http://www.nps.gov/ozar/planyourvisit/upload/OZARmap.pdf> although I've never driven there (floated only), driving access would be from the Flying W Ranch Road. From the river, Medlock Cave features a large rock, a bluff, and a small branch on right when heading downstream. Follow the spring branch to locate a trail up the bluff to locate one entrance to the cave which contains a lake. Entry restricted to protect endangered Gray Bat.
