Terry Beeson Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 I'm anxious, as you are, John, to get JW's take on this. Having talked with John on occastion and heard private comments about some posters, John is very forgiving of those with whom he disagrees. He has a high respect for guys like Fox and others even if they do not see eye to eye on a particular subject. I read the post in question and did not see any editing... maybe it was already done by the time I read it. So I'm not sure what was originally posted and what was changed. But my money is on JW not agreeing with the type of censorship suggested. But I have to say that I respect the administrators of ANY and ALL forums, including FAOL, to change, edit, delete, or "ban" anything and anyone at any time as long as it is within the boundaries of what the "owner" of the forum (i. e. John Wilson on FFAM or Phil on OAF) sees fit. I certainly am of the opinion that unedited posting (other than for unacceptable language) makes for a much better forum, but they still have that right as far as I am concerned... I no longer post on FAOL due to the rash of editing, banning, and other things I don't agree with, but I will fight to the death for their right to do so... One last thing... I do hope that Leonard is happy that this post was not so "long winded...." Rusty Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 Has the whole posting been deleted? I can't find it now. Never mind, I found it...LOCKED. Very unprofessional. I don't care who they are.
SilverMallard Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 People really should be more careful who they give moderator priveleges to. The person in question who is doing that to Moose over on FFAM has been tossed off of at least one BBS as a moderator for abuse and user agreement violations. And he's deleting about 90% of everything Moose posts over there...and the guy owns a major lodge on the White. All started over him trying to thank some guides for their help with his TV show. Sad. RiverRunner Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 I'll throw in my two cents, I think one of the reasons that this forum has succeeded so much is the fact that the moderators do not edit posts to their liking and there is very little flaming among members. This is one of the few forums that a beginner or someone coming to the area for the first time can ask good questions and get good answers. I like Wilson's forum, you can get a lot of good information from some very knowlegeable individuals. The only problem I have seen one the FFAM forum is that you don't have the variety of people posting that you have on this forum and that you don't have a lot of new people who post frequently. It seems to be more of a forum for guides than anything, which is good if you are simply looking for information as I often am. . I've posted a few things here and there on FFAM, but not much, to tell the truth, I've never thought as myself as a good enough fly fisherman to post over there. I guess I just like the easy going nature of this board better. I will be interested to see what happens when JW gets back from Panama, too bad for him a controversy awaits his return from such an exotic locale. We should all be thankful that Phil has created and allows such an open forum to exist.
John Berry Posted February 12, 2007 Author Posted February 12, 2007 I am glad to see that there are a lot of anglers like me that think that a forum is a place where anyone is comfortable to express themselves and pick up some useful information. Several people have sent me emails supporting my thoughts on this situation and I appreciate it. Members whiteriverinnmoose Posted February 12, 2007 Members Posted February 12, 2007 Hey there fishermen and women, My name is Moose Watson,my wife Tina and I own and operate The White River Inn on the White River. For all of you who have read this far or have witnessed my disappearing posts on the other forum I appreciate your phone calls and support against this censorship on such a good platform for open informative exchange of ideas, fishing tips and conditions.I know for sure that JW is not part of this dysfunction on his website. And I am certain he will remedy the problem at hand when he returns with his fiance from his fishing trip in panama. I know I would like to be with them right now, instead of writing posts that vanish into thin air poof!!!.The greatest thing about this response is that if I check it tomorrow I am virtually assured it will still be right here where I left it,even if someone reading it doesnt like what I have to say.Heres to freedom of speech on a great forum, and a great year fishing. My contact info is moose@thewhiteriverinn.com,or 870-430-2233. shawncat Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 I once posted a joke[reply] to Terry when he suggested me being over flied ,under rodded that the next a.m. I thought inappropriate. So I deleted it,not Phil or the moderaters.Sometimes I forget that you guys are'nt in the back of the boat but that I'm at my desk and millions can read my mutterings. It was'nt vulger or have bad language I'm just glad I had the opportunity to delete it.Something I wish I could do in other situations of my life. I too am glad this forum is un-biased in it's approach to fishing.I have also seen disappearing post on FFAM and assummed they were edited or censored. As for grammer and spelling who cares as long as it has a point and makes sense. We all can't have someone to proof-read and edit our mistakes like others on this site.[bURN]Just my $2,2%,2cnts,2sense......two cents........sorry as you can see my vote for a little silliness and a good natured burn here and there.
Terry Beeson Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Dang... now you've got my curiosity up....
