Terry Beeson Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Nope.... It was a Fly Fisherman, a MoDot worker, and a two-headed kangaroo... Guest flyfishBDS Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 There's one good piece of advice to remember when posting to bulletin boards, that what you read often sounds a little different on here than when its spoken. Over 9 years of posting on various FF forums, Ive seen plenty of fights start for misunderstandings _ the sort of joshing you can get away with with friends in a bar can sound very different in hard print. Given that I'd be very cautious about leaping onto another board making accusations, before talking to the person concerned _ especially when its second hand. Anyway my main point was to say to River Runner and anyone else like him _ I used to feel like you when I joined up on my first board _ which was the one for the magazine I now write for. Like JW's it had a bunch of writers/guides _ but like here there were a lot of "non-professionals" I guess there is an ettiquette involved, like joining up with a new club, team or what have you _ walk in telling everyone what you know is an asking for a whooping LOL Ask questions, offer modest suggestions, good humor and you will soon be part of the "family" just like here. I have to say there is a tremendous font of knowledge on John's board, with people like Davy, John etc. Ive learned a lot of stuff there and it is excellent on casting. And Ive made some very very good friends on forums over the years. But I tell you most of the experts I know, are only experts because they realise they are still learning, and everyone's experiences can hel;p you learn. Cheers Steve
Don Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Two-headed kangaroo? Whew! I thought I lost it again. My friends wouldn't let me talk about the UFO because you all would think I'm, well, you know, nutso . But the kangaroo, I'm glad you know about it Terry because I can talk about it now. Yeah, it was hopping up the south bank of the gauntlet last October. I'm glad I can relieve myself of that one . Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
Members whiteriverinnmoose Posted February 13, 2007 Members Posted February 13, 2007 Steve, Your comments are well stated, well meaning, well written, obviously well intentioned, but I think most importantly well taken and understood by me.Thanks for the solid, enlightening advice. Moose
Terry Beeson Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Steve, You are absolutely right. It is difficult at best to articulate in the written word the emotions that go along with what you are trying to say. That's one reason I use emoticons to give some idea that I'm kidding, serious, or whatever. I also try to re-read what I've typed before posting just to get an idea how it MIGHT sound compared to how I WANT it to sound. As well, I will read someone else's post twice if I feel my feathers ruffled. I TRY to put a positive spin on it, but sometimes it still doesn't come across that way. However, my reply (I hope) will be as tactful as possible with maybe even a hint of humor to lighten things a bit. Don, After a couple cups of coffee with a bit of Irish Creamer and while finishing my - uh - well, let's just say "last" margarita last night, I noticed the two-heaeded kangaroo was in Nixa... being chased by the Taneycomo Squid and three drunk monkeys... Not sure how that came out, but apparently KY3 missed the whole thing... crappiefisherman Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I dont think the third monkey was drunk, I think he was just showin off,He did have a nice car though [ [
RiverRunner Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I just wanted to make it clear that I have no problem at all with JW's forum, I just prefer to post more on this one. I have learned a lot from reading on that forum, and will probably post a little more over there once I get more experience in the sport. I've always gotten excellent answers from people like Davy everytime I ask a question. I just don't want people to think that I am bashing FFAM, because I am not. I just wanted to point out the differences as I see them between FFAM and Ozark Anglers. Both are excellent forums in their own ways
Guest flyfishBDS Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Thanks RR _ I understood _ just trying to encourage you to join in Cheers Steve
SilverMallard Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 I try to spend a few days to a couple of weeks reading them before I start posting anything. It gives you a better insight into the personas of the key players, of the overall group, etc. But sometimes you can still commit "sins" without knowing it.
