Greetings~

Recently, I emailed Phil to inquire how I could more efficiently track specific categories and topics. He replied that he was sure there were ways to do it, but couldn't put his mouse on it at that moment.

I did find it by using the HELP link, then clicking on "email notification of new messages". I'm sure many of us use the email notification for our posts in order to receive responses when we participate in a topic, but there are other options you might find additionally helpful. Here is the content of that "help" topic:

This board can notify you when a new reply is added to a topic. Many users find this useful to keep up to date on topics without the need to view the board to check for new messages.

There are three ways to subscribe to a topic:

Click the 'Track This Topic' link at the top of the topic that you wish to track

On the posting screen when replying to or creating a topic, check the 'Enable email notification of replies?' checkbox

From the E-Mail settings section of your User CP (My Controls) check the 'Enable Email Notification by default?' option, this will automatically subscribe you to any topic that you make a reply to

Please note that to avoid multiple emails being sent to your email address, you will only get one e-mail for each topic you are subscribed to until the next time you visit the board.

You are also able to subscribe to each individual forum on the board, to be notified when a new topic is created in that particular forum. To enable this, click the 'Subscribe to this forum' link at the bottom of the forum that you wish to subscribe to.

To unsubscribe from any forums or topics that you are subscribed to - just go to the 'Subscriptions' section of 'My Controls' and you can do this from there.

Hope some of you find this helpful.

As a suggestion for the forum...

Other forums solve this problem by offering a "My Recent Topics" button for users.. Next to the view new post button.. Very helpful and quick, doesn't require all the add to delete from stuff...

Just a suggestion...

I've been receiving the email notifications since the forum began. Its a great way to keep up to date on the topics that you are interested in.

My email gets clogged with so much work stuff that it's hard to filter things out and remember them later.. Plus you have to click on buttons to add each topic that you are involved in and then remove it when you are done..

If you don't have a busy email or don't involve yourself in too many topics your email notification is just fine.. But for those of us that are involved in a billion different forums and work and play stuff it's easier to click on one button to see the most recent topics being discussed and a seperate button for my most recent topics.. Other forums built in this same format have them available, why not Phil and his friends?

A list of "my recent topics" is a great application for users..

You'll have it take it up with invision ip board... they are the ones who designed this forum.

Most used the "View New Posts" to see what new posts are made since the last time they were on. You can clear them by clicking the "Mark all forums as read and return to index".

Phil,

You are so right. Every time I log in, the first thing I do is click on the "View new post". Sure there may be 4 or 5 pages, but I can quickly scan the the topic and the name of the forum to determine if I want to read the Post.

I use "view new posts" or if it gets timed out I go to "todays active topics" at the bottom of the OAF home page.
