Advice Please - Buying a Trailer

It is a sad day in the MIC house.  Due to financial and family obligations, I have to replace my old truck with a new SUV.  As a consolation prize, I will get a trailer to haul stuff I used to haul with my truck.  I've never had a trailer before.  Any advice on what to look for used or new, and what to spend. 

PS... I am selling my 02 Chevy Z71 4x4.  It has 150K and some minor hail damage, but it runs fine.  I would call it a good ole farm truck.  If you know anyone near STL looking for such a vehicle, let me know.  I'm looking to be around the low end of the blue book, $6500 for a quick sell.
