This is for those who struggle skipping docks. I did post this already on the bbb topic but thought I would just make a new post specific to this topic. If you are having trouble skipping docks here is a technique to help with those pesky back lashes. Take your bait caster with the jig you plan on using. 3/8 or 1/2 work best but when you get the hang of it you can easily skip a 3/4 as well. Make a cast about 30 to 40 feet and pull out some extra line if you want. Do this at home while your line is still dry. Then wrap your spool with a piece of black tape about an inch long. While reeling your lure in keep tension on the line as to get good adhesion to your spool line. This prevents underpin on your extra line eliminating such a deep back lash. Or You can just put about 30 to 40 feet of line on your reel if you would like. I just don't like this as it changes the reel ratio.  Not only does the black tape trick work to help you with skipping, but it will also help teach a kid how to use a bit caster while eliminating those back lashes. Good luck and do lots of practice.

This sounds like good advice. I've tried it before many moons ago when I first started using a baitcaster.
