None that I know of.

Some people want you to think there's only trout here... but not true! Bass (blacks, kentucks, smallies), blue gill, crappie, cats, whites and more.

I'll testify to that. I saw a guy catch a 10# large mouth a few years back while bow fishing. There are some carp in Taney that look like Soviet Nuclear Subs.

My dad caught a 13lb Walleye In between outlet one and two about 5 years ago. The pic made it all the way up to Kansas City and was the fish of the week in the Star.

The people that think that there are nothing but Trout in Taneycomo need to remember that the White River was Damed. The White River had a lot of species in it when it was damed.

The first dam was at Forsyth and it was built in 1912 I might be wrong though. So if the fish were there and have been reproducing over the years they could still be there. That is if they have not been depleted.

Here are some of the species that I have caught out of Taney in the last 10 years. Largemouth, Small mouth, Crappie, Bluegill, White Bass down by power site, Suckers, Gar, Rainbows, Browns, and A few Cut-Bows way back in the day be for Taney got hot.

That is one thing I like about Taney especially when it gets hot you can go down to Taney in the hot months like July and August and fish for shallow bass. Where as on the big lake they tend to get deep toward the cooler water.

Trav- what do you think the pressure is on Taney- lower Taney compared to other lakes in the area?

From Downtown Taneycomo bridge up to the Dam I would consider the pressure to be extremely high. But, only 20 percent of the fishermen catch 70 percent of the fish. Now from Roark down, the pressure is just about the same as other lakes in the area. Although only 10 percent of the fishermen catch about 90 percent of the fish. Truer to what Al Linder believes.

The lower part of the lake confuses alot of the fisherman. Many fish it from time to time with some or little success and give up to never return or stay closer to the Dam. I would say the average guy who is consistantly successful in the Lower lake usually grew up fishing it, or lives on it. Or both, like myself. I would guess it would take a tourist a lifetime of vacations to be able say they can catch fish on every given day.

The key is to use the diversity of both water and species to keep yourself from skunking out. Never tunnel vision yourself into just Bass, or just trout. As a big brownie hunter I know that if I dont have any success I can switch to my favorite, bass, and vice versa. If that fails I can always catch half a dozen stocker bows without a stress in the world.

flyfishfan, I don't mean to be presumptuous in any way, but that sounds like a great stream you're talking about! My father and I have been looking for a stream we can fish this winter a little bit that we don't have to put a boat on, or at least can put just a jon boat on, and that is in St. Louis. Is your stream one that we could visit?
