Members govslug Posted November 23, 2015 Members Posted November 23, 2015 Anyone running an etec motor on thier trout boat on the white river ? Would like to hear pro's and con's
Seth Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 I ran a 2008 115 Etec jet for four years and now a 2013 150 Etec jet. They have been good motors. I did have to get an injector replaced on my 2008 a few years after I got it. My 2013 also had to get a new fuel pump shortly after I got it, but both were covered under warranty. Aside from that, I just turn the key and run it like I stole it. govslug 1
Members Ccox1982 Posted November 24, 2015 Members Posted November 24, 2015 I put a 25 hp E-Tec on my 2013 Shawnee in August. I was running a 20 hp Mercury. I love that I made the switch. The E-Tec has less moving parts then a four stroke and less maintenance to be done. I believe it's every 300 hrs or 3 years. It gets up out of the hole much quicker and to me runs quieter and smoother then my Mercury did. Don't have to choke or prime it either. Starts right up. I like how it's got a good sized tiller handle on it with the start, kill switch and forward and reverse handle on it. Seems to burn about the same amount of gas as my Mercury did. Only cons I can think of is that it's computerized and it would be harder to work on. That's why I got a 3 year warranty. It's a great looking motor as well. Hope this helps a little. govslug 1
Members govslug Posted November 26, 2015 Author Members Posted November 26, 2015 Thanks....that is what I have , 25 hp. Just bought it and haven't had it out yet. Have heard a lot of good , but surprised that I haven't seen more out on the river. Ccox1982 1
Al Agnew Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 I've got a 40 HP Etec on my jetboat. I'm about the world's worst on maintenance. I've had it since 2007. The only thing I've ever done is squirt the lube in after every use (though sometimes I forget about it for a day or two) and remember about once or twice a year to check the oil level. I never use anything but the cheap gas in it with ethanol. I seldom use it at all in the summer, so it just sits there. I use it probably 10 times a year in the cool to cold weather seasons. So I figure it has maybe 200 hours total on it. It starts within a second EVERY time and runs like a Swiss watch, and I've obviously never had a problem with it. Seth 1

Al Agnew Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Oh, I know that. Just pointing out that mine has been amazingly trouble free.
Members stlfishin Posted November 27, 2015 Members Posted November 27, 2015 Al, Just pulling your bowline, I'm confident you're Boy Scout prepared. Being a winter fisherman myself I'm obsessive about keeping my old Evinrude up to par. That being said, despite it just coming home from a reputable dealer for service along with a new battery, she recently gave me some issues on the Gasconade. I managed to get her running wide open but starting & idle presented problems. She returned to the shop & hopefully she's OK now. Once the CFS comes down a bit, I'll be back out. I will admit that within the next year or 2 at the most, I'm going to a new or slightly used E-Tec Jet, they're great outboards. I've owned two new Mercury 40 jet 4 strokes and I've had issues with both; I'm going back to an Evinrude and away from the four strokes.
