I grew up around the Kimberling area, learned to Bass fish in the area of Mill Creek and Baxter. Since then we have moved off to Colorado. It's been 15 years since ww have been back. Every time we fish, my Dad brings up the old days. So the last week of March we will be bringing my Gambler back for that special trip. I plan on fishing again at Mill Creek and Baxter areas again. Can someone tell me how far of a run it is from Indian Point to these areas by Lake? I will not be leaving home without my warts and my rouge boxes but anything else I should make sure to pack for that time? Thanks! We are getting excited!

Offhand about 17-20 miles by lake. Far enough to be ugly if it is cold, windy, and wet. If you are staying up by Baxter, I'd think about trailering over to somewhere like the scout ramp.

Ned Rig, smoke grubs, shakey heads, and some 4" or so swimbaits like a Keitech would be on the list. And plenty of 6#-8# line.

Thanks about what I remember. We will be staying at Village on Indian Point. My Wife and daughter will be heading into town daily to get there style of fishing..."for deals". I will plan on a good day to make the run so likely will be fishing around IP for the most part.

Wasn't sure if the Arig will still be a player then or if they be moving to the backs by then. How do big hudds or big hard swimbaits produce there? My Ned and DS box never leave the boat out here and will definitly be making the trip.

We "might" trailer over Rockaway and try em on the hudds but affraid that might be a bit early for that bite.

The a-rig will just depend on how fast it warms up. There will likely be plenty of fish still in the first third of the creeks down by the dam,and should be brown fish getting up on the main lake gravel. I intend to throw some big swimmers, hard and soft, but that will be later. Closer to when the gizzard shad get on the banks.

Richy is the local swimbait wizard. He usually does pretty well with them in March.

I appreciate that. We have alot of opportunity here to catch brown ones here. I want to target a big prespawn Green mama. As far as Dad is concerned hell be perfectly content dragging a ned around just catching numbers. With the weather pattern this year it will be hard to predict what we'll be facing but either way it will be a very sentimental trip for us both.
