Water at Crane is in pretty good shape, fished a few hours today and mangaged to catch 8 trout, all were small and in very good shape, biggest was about 10" I caught a creek chub that was almost that big :)

Caught most of my fish on a glo-ball, but did manage to catch a couple on a #10 mohair leech (olive)

Nearly got run over by a red fox, don't know what he was doing out in the day light, but he didn't look sick, and he was fast on his feet. It was a good day for wildlife, saw a lot of turkeys and several deer, I guess they were out enjoying the warm weather.

Well I fished my first of 10 blue ribbon waters this morning at Crane Creek, Crane MO. It was an unbelievable day. We have had cold weather lately but this week it rocketed and was 65+ degrees today. I got to Crane at about 7:40 and hit the water. It was a slow day but a great day. With the terrible ice storm has downed a lot of trees which made fishing difficult (needless to say I lost my fair share of flies). All in all I saw 20+ fish and was able to land one nice 13" rainbow and two 8" fighters. Hit one whole that held 3 20"+ rainbows that at least went a LBS 1/2 to TWO. Finally was able to get my John Deere (a green jig pattern) down to them and bang, but as quick as I had him he was gone and that was all for the big fish this day. But what a great start to the 07' season. Happy fishing.

I started on the upper end of Crane west of town.

I ended up on some private water below town, that is where I had the most luck. I didn't see anything real big, but I have seen and caught a few down there that were in the 15-17" range, but didn't see any today.

I only had a few hours to fish, and had to run back to springfield. But what a beautiful day.

Have you fished Spring Creek below Hurley? It used to have some good trout in it.

Yes, but not for a few years. I fish spring river around verona once or twice a month in the winter, and I fish capps creek every couple of weeks. I fish shoal creek down where capps enters into shoal creek, this time of year you'll see a trout in there once in awhile. These rivers are all real close to home, so I get over to them in the afternoons a lot during the winter.

I may fish Capps tomorrow evening, depends on how much I get done around the shop tomorrow.
